Abdoul Mbaye is a Senegalese banker and politician who was Prime Minister of Senegal from April 2012 until September 2013. He is a technocrat who was appointed prime minister by President Macky Sall following the latter's win in the 2012 presidential election. [2]
Abdoul Aziz Mbaye is born on was born on 13 April 1953,in Dakar. [3] He is the son of judge Keba Mbaye,dead in 2007,who was the first president of the Supreme Court of Senegal,president of the Constitutional Council,a member of the International Olympic Committee and of the International Court of Justice. Abdoul Mbaye is the eldest in a family of three brothers and five sisters,including Cheikh Tidiane Mbaye,CEO of Sonatel.
Abdoul Mbaye studied in Senegal [4] at the University of Dakar and at France's HEC Paris and Paris-Sorbonne University. He is also a graduate of Cheikh Anta Diop University. [5]
In 1976 he joined the Central Bank of West African States as an economist in the research department,before becoming the International Monetary Fund's Director of the Division of Planning in 1981. He also worked in Ivory Coast at some point. [6] He then took over as CEO of Banque de l’Habitat du Sénégal in 1982. In 1990 he was a part of the restructuring team for BIAO-Sénégal,then becoming CEO of the re-modeled Compagnie Bancaire de l'Afrique Occidentale,where the bank initiated the first company leasing in Senegal and started the first investment fund in west Africa.
He was also the president of the Federation of Associations of Banks and Financial Institutions of the West African Economic and Monetary Union [6] and the Senegalese Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions [7] and the head of Attijari Bank Senegal [8] (majority owned by Attijariwafa),which he acquired as the head of a consortium to turn around the ailing bank. He also worked with the IMF in developing regulations for investment funds in west Africa. At the African Finance and Investment Group,he was an administrator. [6]
On 3 April 2012,he was appointed Prime Minister of Senegal by the newly elected President Macky Sall. He formally took over the office from the outgoing Prime Minister,Souleymane NdénéNdiaye,on 5 April 2012. [9]
The composition of a 25-member government headed by Mbaye was announced in the late hours of 4 April. [10] The government consists of the opposition parties who supported Sall in the election which each got two portfolios:[ which? ] Socialist Party of Senegal of Ousmane Tanor Dieng,the Alliance of the Forces of Progress of Moustapha Niasse and the Rewmi party of Idrissa Seck. Idrissa Seck is a Senegalese politician who was Prime Minister of Senegal from November 2002 to July 2004. He was a leading member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) and was considered a protégéof President Abdoulaye Wade,but he subsequently went into opposition and was a candidate in the February 2007 presidential election,coming second place with about 15% of the vote.
Macky Sall is a Senegalese politician who served as the 4th President of Senegal from 2012 to 2024. He previously served as the 8th Prime Minister of Senegal from July 2004 to June 2007,under President Abdoulaye Wade and President of the National Assembly from June 2007 to November 2008.
Parliamentary elections were held in Senegal on 3 June 2007 to elect the 150 members of the National Assembly. They had originally been planned to be held together with the presidential election on 25 February 2007,but were postponed. Fourteen parties or coalitions participated in the elections,but they were marked by a major opposition boycott. A lawyer by profession,Ndiaye is the president of the National Union for the People (UNP). He was also Mayor of Guinguinéo.
Presidential elections were held in Senegal on 26 February 2012,amidst controversy over the constitutional validity of a third term for incumbent president Abdoulaye Wade. In the runoff on 25 March,Macky Sall defeated the incumbent president. The 2015 documentary film Incorruptible chronicles both campaigns as well as the youth movement Y'en a Marre,which led protests against Wade's administration.
Aminata Touré is a Senegalese politician who served as the Prime Minister of Senegal from 1 September 2013 to 4 July 2014. She was the second female Prime Minister of Senegal after Mame Madior Boye,and she previously served as Justice Minister from 2012 to 2013. While campaigning for the upcoming elections in February 2024,she was arrested by the police and detained for six hours though never charged with any crime.

Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne was a Senegalese politician who served as the Prime Minister of Senegal from 2014 to 2019. He was the third prime minister appointed by President Macky Sall. Dionne served at the Central Bank of West African States,the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ONUDI),and as the advisor of the president,before his appointment as prime minister. He was a computer engineer by training.
Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye is a Senegalese politician. In 2012,she was appointed Minister of Livestock and Animal Production in the government of Prime Minister Abdou Mbaye and from 2014 under the government of Prime Minister Mahammad Boun Abdallah Dionne until 5 April 2019,when she was named Minister of Fishery and Maritime Economy Ministre des Pêches et de l’Economie maritime. She also serves as mayor of Louga,and is currently chair of the women's movement of the Socialist Party of Senegal. Previously,Ndiaye served as Minister of Women,Children and the Family,as well as Minister of Social Development and National Solidarity under the presidency of Abdou Diouf.
