Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail is a Somali politician and current Minister of internal Security of Somalia [1] and a Member of Somali senate [2] . He also served as vice president of Jubaland state of Somalia [3] and former commander in the army of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of the Republic of Somalia.
He was Head of the Juba Valley Alliance (JVA) before it folded under the command of the TFG,serving under Barre Adan Shire Hiiraale before and after the merger of forces.
On October 6,2006,vowed to retake Kismayo after its abandonment to the Islamic Courts Union (ICU),but their counterattacks at the time failed. JVA officials in Jilib were also reported arrested by the ICU. [4]
On October 22,SomaliNet reported Gen. Ismael Fartaag was claimed to have been captured and knifed to death after the fall of the town of Bu'aale to the ICU. [5] [6] However,on November 4,these reports proved false when Gen. Fartaag was reported alive and well in Bardhere. [7]
On November 5,there were reports of the "unlocking" (presumably,the beginning) of training of 1,300 Ahlu Suna Wal Jama'a clerics in Bardhere to fight on behalf of the JVA/TFG. These recruits were to replace the losses suffered by the JVA in October. The number began as 700,but rapidly increased to 1,300. Gen. Fartaag was reported to explain,"They are volunteers attending to defend their territory from the invasion of foreigners alongside the Islamic courts." [8]
On December 19,Gen. Fartaag was named as the commander of the TFG forces defending Bardhere from attack. [9] However,the ICU collapsed after that in the course of the Battle of Baidoa,and Bardhere never fell to them.

Barre Adan Shire,also known as Barre Hiiraale,Barre "Hirale" Aden Shire,or Abdikadir Adan Shire,is a former Minister of Defense of the Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG). He was previously the TFG Minister for National Reconstruction and Resettlement. Hiiraale was also the chairman of the now defunct Juba Valley Alliance,which controlled Southern and Southwestern Somalia,including the nation's third-largest city,the strategic port town of Kismayo. During his time in office,Hiiraale presided over the country's largest autonomous area,as well as commanding an extensive militia.
The Islamic Courts Union was a legal and political organization founded by Mogadishu-based Sharia courts during the early 2000s to combat the lawlessness stemming from the Somali Civil War. By mid-to-late 2006,the Islamic Courts had expanded their influence to become the de facto government in most of southern and central Somalia.

General Ismail Qasim Naji in Borama,Somalia was the chief of staff of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia and currently the Somali ambassador in Oman. He has served as a senior officer of the Somali army since the administration of Siad Barre,who was removed from power in 1991. Before the formation of the TFG,he also commanded the army of the predecessor Transitional National Government (TNG) of Somalia between 2002 and 2004.
