Abdus Salam is a Bangladeshi politician and former chairman of CDA. He was elected member of Jatiya Sangsad from Chittagong-8 as an independent candidate on the 2024 Bangladeshi general election. [1] [2]
Bangladesh,officially the People's Republic of Bangladesh,is a country in South Asia. It is the eighth-most populous country in the world and is among the most densely populated countries with a population of nearly 170 million in an area of 148,460 square kilometres (57,320 sq mi). Bangladesh shares land borders with India to the north,west,and east,and Myanmar to the southeast. To the south,it has a coastline along the Bay of Bengal. It is narrowly separated from Bhutan and Nepal by the Siliguri Corridor,and from China by the mountainous Indian state of Sikkim in the north. Dhaka,the capital and largest city,is the nation's political,financial,and cultural centre. Chittagong is the second-largest city and is the busiest port on the Bay of Bengal. The official language of Bangladesh is Bengali while Bangladeshi English is also used in the government and official documents alongside Bengali.
Dhaka,formerly known as Dacca,is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. It is the ninth-largest and seventh-most densely populated city in the world. Dhaka is a megacity,and has a population of 10.2 million residents as of 2022,and a population of over 22.4 million residents in Dhaka Metropolitan Area. It is widely considered to be the most densely populated built-up urban area in the world. Dhaka is the most important cultural,economic,and scientific hub of Eastern South Asia,as well as a major Muslim-majority city. Dhaka ranks third in South Asia and 39th in the world in terms of GDP. Lying on the Ganges Delta,it is bounded by the Buriganga,Turag,Dhaleshwari and Shitalakshya rivers. Dhaka is also the largest Bengali-speaking city in the world.
The economy of Bangladesh is a major developing market economy. As the second-largest economy in South Asia,Bangladesh's economy is the 35th largest in the world in nominal terms,and 25th largest by purchasing power parity. Bangladesh is seen by various financial institutions as one of the Next Eleven. It has been transitioning from being a frontier market into an emerging market. Bangladesh is a member of the South Asian Free Trade Area and the World Trade Organization. In fiscal year 2021–2022,Bangladesh registered a GDP growth rate of 7.2% after the global pandemic. Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
The foreign relations of Bangladesh are Bangladesh's relationships with foreign countries. The Government of Bangladesh's policies pursue a moderate foreign policy that heavily relies on multilateral diplomacy,especially at the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Since its independence in 1971,Bangladesh has stressed its principle of "Friendship towards all,malice towards none" in dictating its diplomacy. As a member of the Non-Aligned Movement,Bangladesh has tended to not take sides with major powers. Since the end of the Cold War,Bangladesh has pursued better relations with its neighbours and other nearby states.
The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The air force is primarily responsible for air defence of Bangladesh's sovereign territory as well as providing air support to the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy. Furthermore,the BAF has a territorial role in providing tactical and strategic air transport and logistics capability for the country.
The Bangladesh Awami League,often simply called the Awami League or AL,is one of the major political parties in Bangladesh. The oldest existing political party in the country,Awami League successfully lead Bangladesh to the independence. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport,,is the main international airport serving Dhaka City,the capital city of Bangladesh,and it is the largest airport in Bangladesh. It is located in Kurmitola,17 km (11 mi) from the city centre,in the northern part of Dhaka. The airport is also used as a base for the Bangladesh Air Force,named BAF Base Bangabandhu. The airport has an area of 802 hectares. The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) operates and maintains the airport. It started operations in 1980,taking over from Tejgaon Airport as the principal international airport of the country. The airport was formerly known as Dacca International Airport and later as Zia International Airport,before being named in honour of Shah Jalal,who is one of the most respected Sufi saints of Bangladesh. The IATA code of the airport "DAC" is derived from "Dacca",which is the previously used spelling for "Dhaka".
Bengalis,also rendered as endonym Bangalee,are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group originating from and culturally affiliated with the Bengal region of South Asia. The population is divided between the sovereign country Bangladesh and the Indian regions of West Bengal,Tripura,Barak Valley,Goalpara,Andaman and Nicobar Islands,and parts of Meghalaya,Manipur and Jharkhand. Most speak Bengali,a language from the Indo-Aryan language family. Sub-section 2 of Article 6 of the Constitution of Bangladesh states,"The people of Bangladesh shall be known as Bengalis as a nation and as Bangladeshis as citizens."

American International University-Bangladesh,commonly known by its acronym AIUB,is a private university in Dhaka,Bangladesh. This university was established in 1994. It offers several degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels from its four faculties. The university is an independent organization with its own board of trustees.
The Bangladesh women's national cricket team is the team that represents the country of Bangladesh in international women's cricket matches. They made their international debut when they played,and won,two matches against Thailand in July 2007 before participating in and winning the 2007 ACC Women's Tournament. Bangladesh were granted One-Day International (ODI) status in 2011 after finishing fifth in the 2011 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier. They subsequently qualified for the 2014 ICC Women's World Twenty20 as hosts,making their first appearance at a top-level women's international tournament. They have also won the 2018 edition of ACC Women's Asia Cup. This was the only instance in ACC Women's Asia Cup where any team other than India won the tournament. The team made its first World Cup appearance at the 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup,and has participated in every edition of the World Twenty20 since making its debut at the 2014 edition.

Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid,also known as Sharfuddoula Saikat,is an international cricket umpire and a former first-class player from Bangladesh. He is the first Bangladeshi umpire to be included in the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires in March 2024. He also officiated in 100 matches in men's international cricket including ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2023.
Magura-1 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad of Bangladesh since 2024 by Shakib Al Hasan of the Awami League.
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 January 2024 in accordance with the current constitutional requirement,stating that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the current term of the Jatiya Sangsad on 29 January 2024. The Awami League,led by incumbent Sheikh Hasina,won the election for the fourth consecutive time with less than 40% of the eligible voters voting according to an Election Commission,which is run by the ruling political party. The party won 224 seats while independent candidates,most of whom were Awami League members propped up as dummy candidates to give a semblance of competition,won 62 seats.
