Abigail Byskata (born 7 May 2007) is a Finnish ice hockey player and member of the Finnish national under-18 ice hockey team, currently playing in the Naisten Liiga (NSML) with Team Kuortane.
Byskata developed in the junior ice hockey department of Terjärv Ungdoms Sportklubb (TUS) in her hometown of Terjärv in the Kronoby municipality of Ostrobothnia on the west coast of Finland. She began competing in the national E2 (under-11 or U11) league with TUS E2 AA (see minor ice hockey ) in 2015 and remained with the team through 2017. [2] In the 2017–18 season, she played with the TUS teams in the E2 AA, E1 A (U12 A), and E1 AA (U12 AA) leagues. The 2018–19 season was played with TUS D2 AA and Byskata recorded 21 goals and 12 assists for 33 points in 21 games played, ranking second on the team for points. [3]
Byskata made her debut with the national under-18 team at the 2023 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship. [4] At fifteen years old, she was the youngest skater in the Finnish lineup. [1] She played in all six games but did not record a point.
At the 2023 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival, Byskata captained the Finnish national under-16 team in the girls' ice hockey tournament. She tied Jannika Sten as top goal-scorer on the team, with 3 goals, and ranked third on the team and fourteenth of all tournament skaters for points. In the third place game against Sweden, Byskata netted the only goal of the shootout to secure a bronze medal victory for Finland. [5]
Byskata has also played association football with TUS teams and participated in athletics and orienteering.

Ice hockey tournaments have been staged at the Olympic Games since 1920. The men's tournament was introduced at the 1920 Summer Olympics and was transferred permanently to the Winter Olympic Games program in 1924, in France. The women's tournament was first held at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
The 1990 IIHF Women's World Championships was an international women's ice hockey competition held at Civic Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada from March 19 to 25, in 1990. This was the first IIHF-sanctioned international tournament in women's ice hockey and is the only major international tournament in women's ice hockey to allow bodychecking. Full contact bodychecking was allowed with certain restrictions near the boards. The intermissions between periods were twenty minutes instead of fifteen. This has since been changed to the usual fifteen minutes.
Emma Kristiina Terhonée Laaksonen is a Finnish retired ice hockey defenseman and the current Chair of the IOC Athletes' Commission. She previously served as general manager of Kiekko-Espoo Naiset in the Naisten Liiga. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano she became the youngest Winter Olympian to medal for Finland, winning a bronze medal at the age of 16 years 54 days.
Hanna-Riikka Sallinen is a Finnish retired ice hockey, bandy, rinkball, and pesäpallo player. She is one of the most highly decorated players to have ever competed in international ice hockey.
Marie-Philip Poulin (born March 28, 1991) is a Canadian ice hockey forward for the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) and captain of the Canada women's national ice hockey team. A three-time Olympic and three-time World champion with the Canadian national team, Poulin famously scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal games in three out of four of the Olympics in which she competed, for which she was dubbed Captain Clutch by her teammates and the media. Following another game-winning goal at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship, she completed an unprecedented "golden goal hat trick" at major international championships. Since 2015 she has served as the captain of Team Canada, leading them to a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and a gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Anna Vanhatalo is a Finnish retired ice hockey and ringette player and former member of the Finnish national ice hockey team and the Finnish national ringette team. Representing Finland, she won a bronze medal in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In 2004 and 2007, she won gold in the World Ringette Championships.
Anna Kilponen is a Finnish ice hockey defenceman, currently signed with the Metropolitan Riveters of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) for the 2022–23 season. She played four seasons of college ice hockey in the NCAA Division I, two seasons with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks and two seasons with the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Following her college career, she has played in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) with Linköping HC Dam, in the Finnish Naisten Liiga (NSML) with the Tampereen Ilves Naiset, and in the Zhenskaya Hockey League (ZhHL) with the KRS Vanke Rays.
Ronja Savolainen is a Finnish ice hockey defenceman and member of the Finnish national ice hockey team, currently playing in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) with Luleå HF/MSSK.
Susanna "Suski" Tapani is a Finnish multi-sport elite athlete who competes in ice hockey, ringette, and in-line hockey. She is a member of the Finnish national ice hockey team and Finnish national ringette team. Tapani was team captain for Finland's 2022 World Ringette Championships senior team which won gold.
Meeri Räisänen is a Finnish ice hockey goaltender and member of the Finnish national ice hockey team, currently playing in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) with the Connecticut Whale. As a member of the Finnish national team, she won Olympic bronze medals in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2018 Winter Olympics and the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2022 Winter Olympics, World Championship bronze medals in 2015 and 2021, and was named to the World Championship All-Star Team in 2015 and 2016.
Petra Nieminen is a Finnish ice hockey player for Luleå HF/MSSK of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) and alternate captain of Finland women's national ice hockey team. She is considered one of the top young talents in Finnish ice hockey.

The Naisten Suomi-sarja, distinguished as the Jääkiekon naisten Suomi-sarja, is the third-tier women's ice hockey league in Finland. It was founded by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 2003. It is the lowest tier of national ice hockey competition, below the premier Naisten Liiga and secondary Naisten Mestis, but above regional hobby leagues.
Nela Lopušanová is a Slovak ice hockey player, a winger, currently playing in the Slovak premier under-16 league, the Liga starších žiakov AA, with the U16 team of VLCI Žilina and in the Slovak Women's Extraliga with MsHKM Žilina ženy. She gained the attention of the international ice hockey community at age fourteen with her remarkable performance at the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship, which included scoring the first Michigan goal at an IIHF women's event.
