The Department of Culture and Tourism was established in February 2012 by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to replace Abu Dhabi's two main tourism and culture agencies, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. The new authority's objective is to preserve and manage the art and cultural heritage of the emirate and develop tourism and future museum projects such as Zayed National Museum, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Louvre Abu Dhabi Museums. [2] [3]

In September 2017, Sheikh Khalifa issued a decree to reshape the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, which included renaming the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority to Department of Culture and Tourism. [4]

Merger

The authority is a merge between three, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage; an institution which was responsible of preservation of cultural heritage, [5] Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and cultural department of Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC); one of the private developers in culture tourism in the emirate.

The merge was ordered by executive council and Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan was appointed as chairman to oversees the emergence of the new authority leveraging his experience as chairman of former TDIC’s Cultural Department. [6]

The fund is a member of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds and is therefore signed up to the Santiago Principles on best practice in managing sovereign wealth funds.

Al Nahyan family Emirati Dynasty

Al Nahyan are one of the six ruling families of the United Arab Emirates, and are based in the capital Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Al Nahyan is a branch of the House of Al Falahi, a branch of the Bani Yas tribe, and are related to the House of Al Falasi from which the ruling family of Dubai, Al Maktoum, descends. The Bani Yas came to Abu Dhabi in the 18th century from Liwa Oasis. They have ruled Abu Dhabi since 1793, and previously ruled Liwa. Five of the rulers who ruled from the late 1800s to early 1900s killed one another; they were brothers.

Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum

Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum, also known as "Al Ain Palace Museum", is a museum in the city of Al Ain, within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Qasr Al Muwaiji Fort in the UAE

Tourism in the United Arab Emirates is an important component of the Emirati economy, and consists of domestic and international components. In 2018, tourist industry composed over 164.7 billion dirham to country's GDP.
