Abubaker Abed (born 24 November 2002) is a Palestinian writer and journalist from Gaza, Palestine. [1] Abed began his career as a sports journalist and began covering geopolitics during the Gaza war; he has written for The Guardian, Middle East Eye, TRT World, Zeteo, and Al Jazeera, among other publications. In 2025, Abed was awarded with Press TV's 'Journalist of the Year' award. [6] Abed's work has appeared in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Italian. [7] [8] [9] [10]
Abed was raised in Deir al-Balah Camp in the central Gaza Strip and attended an UNRWA preparatory school and Al-Aqsa University, where he joined We Are Not Numbers as a volunteer. [11] Abed learned English by watching the British sports club Chelsea FC. [1]
During the Gaza war, Abed reported extensively from the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah. [12] Abed has participated in Reporters Without Borders' efforts to push against Israeli targeting of journalists in the Gaza Strip. [13]
