Actors Centre Australia is a private, dramatic arts and acting school offering both certificate and degree level qualifications, based in Leichhardt, an Inner West suburb of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia.

History

ACA was founded in 1987 by Dean Carey, then aged 27. He has remained associated with ACA since, while also having a varied national and international teaching, production, and performing career. [1]

Patron

Hugh Jackman is Patron of ACA. He graduated from ACA's full-time acting course in 1991. Having established a national and international career, Jackman accepted the role of Patron in 2007 and continues to support the ACA.

Organisation

ACA is a trading name of the Australian registered company, ACA Sydney Pty Ltd ABN 13 601 586 467 which is also a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) (Code:45065). [2]

Staff are organised as Executive Teaching, Teaching, and Operational staff.

The ACA's Forum Performance Precinct comprises: “The Italian Forum” - an open-air piazza and fountain; amphitheatre; a 300-seat versatile performance space; blackbox theatre; rehearsal rooms; conference facility; dance studio; licensed bar; demonstration kitchen; commercial kitchen; and, art gallery.

Adelaide Festival Centre

Adelaide Festival Centre, Australia's first multi-purpose arts centre and the home of South Australia's performing arts, was built in the 1970s, designed by Hassell Architects. The Festival Theatre opened in June 1973 with the rest of the centre following soon afterwards. The complex includes Festival Theatre, Dunstan Playhouse, Space Theatre and several gallery and function spaces. Located approximately 50 metres (160 ft) north of the corner of North Terrace and King William Road, lying near the banks of the River Torrens and adjacent to Elder Park, it is distinguished by its two white geometric dome roofs, and lies on a 45-degree angle to the city's grid.

The Sydney Fringe is an alternative arts and culture festival held for the first time in September 2010 in the inner west of Sydney, Australia.

Leichhardt Espresso Chorus is Sydney’s contemporary choir, specialising in Australian art music for choir and orchestra. The choir has participated in the world premiere of 200 new compositions since 2002, having commissioned 170 of these. Since its inception in 1998, LEC has prospered under the leadership of Artistic Director Michelle Leonard and has redefined the capacity of community choirs. They have collaborated with many other performers, such as Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and are the artist-in-residence at the Moorambilla Festival in New South Wales. In 2008 the chorus received the "Best Community Outreach" award in the inaugural Music in Communities Awards by the Music Council of Australia.

James Norton was a solicitor and public figure in early colonial New South Wales. Admitted to practise in England, he arrived in Sydney in September 1818 where only four other attorneys were then practising. He was the founder of the first law firm in Sydney. He was a member of the first Legislative Council under responsible government in New South Wales in 1856, and drafted numerous laws. He held land at Mulgoa which was farmed and owned Elswick, a 30 ha estate in what is now Leichhardt where he grew prize flowers and plants. He was a leading Sydney member of the Anti-Transportation League and a protectionist in whose cause he published a series of pamphlets.

Global Citizen, also known as Global Poverty Project, is an international education and advocacy organization working to catalyze the movement to end extreme poverty.
