Adison Kakuru

Adison Kakuru is a Ugandan politician, businessman, farmer, and environmentalist. He was the elected member of Parliament representing Rukiga County in Kabale District in the 8th Parliament of Uganda. He also served as the elected district chairperson of Kabale District (LC 5 chairman), district council speaker in Kabale, and member of the Kabale District Council representing Rwamucucu Sub-county. He is a member of the National Resistance Movement political party. [1] [2]

Biography

Kakuru was born on 14 April 1962 in Kabale District. [3] He attended Kigezi College Butobere for his O and A level education. Kakuru obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry, with honors, from Makerere University in 1990. He also holds a Master of Science degree in environment and natural resources management from Makerere University. He attended the International Agricultural Centre, Wageningen, Netherlands. [4]

Career

Kakuru has served as an officer in the research department of the Forestry Department as a counterpart staff to the Government of Uganda's Agroforestry Research Network for Africa (AFRENA).

At the Ugandan National Agricultural Research Organization, he worked as a research officer/centre manager at the Forestry Research Institute and also worked on other projects. [5] He was head of the Kabale AFRENA Station. He was also head of the Natural Resources section of Africare [6] under Africare/USAID, a Title II Food for Peace funded Project called the Uganda Food Security Initiative.

As an environmentalist, Kakuru worked at the Regional Centre for Services in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, in Nairobi, Kenya; the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry in Nairobi; the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Food and Agriculture Organization in Vienna, Austria; the National Agricultural Research Organisation in Kampala, Uganda; and the World Mountain Peoples' Association in Paris, France.

Politics

In April 1992, Kakuru was elected a member of the Kabale District Council, representing the Rwamucucu Sub-county. He held the office until 2002, serving as chairperson of the District Education Committee and the District Production and Environment Committee. In April 1998, he was elected district council speaker of Kabale, a position he held until March 2002, while also serving as the chairman of the District Council Business Committee.

Kakuru became the Kabale District chairperson in April 2002, [7] defeating Francis Runumi. He was re-elected to the same office in 2006. In March 2010, he resigned to take part in the 2010 Rukiga county federal by-election. [8]

In March 2010, Kakuru was elected a member of the 8th Ugandan Parliament, representing Rukiga County in the Kabale District [9] after defeating Forum for Democratic Change candidate Jack Sabiiti. [10] [11] While in Parliament, he served on the standing committee Physical Infrastructure and the sessional committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and Government Enterprises.[ citation needed ]

In the 2011 national election, he lost to Jack Sabiiti. [12]

Frederick Douglas Mwanja Mukisa was a Ugandan educator and politician. He served as the State Minister for Fisheries in the Ugandan Cabinet, from 1 June 2006 until 27 May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Ruth Nankabirwa. He also served in the elected Ugandan Parliament, representing "Bukooli County Central", Bugiri District, from 2006 until 2011. During the 2011 national election cycle, he lost to Hajji Siraji Lyavala during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries, who in turn lost to Wafula Oguttu of the Forum for Democratic Change, in the general election. In March 2015, Siraji Lyavala was elected Chairman (LC-5) of Bugiri District.

MusumbaIsaac Isanga is a Ugandan lawyer and politician. He served as the State Minister for Regional Foreign Affairs, from June 2006 until May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle on 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet and was replaced by Asuman Kiyingi. He also served as the elected Member of Parliament (MP), representing "Buzaaya County", Kamuli District, from 1996 until 2011. During the 2011 national elections, he lost to Muzaale Martin Kisule Mugabi, during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries. In 2016, he bounced back into the 10th parliament, representing Buzaaya County, in Kamuli District, on the NRM ticket. In the 2021 elections, he lost in the NRM primaries to Martin Muzaale and decided to contest as an Independent candidate and further lost to the NRM’s flag bearer, Muzaale Martin Kisule Mugabi

Serapio Rukundo is a Ugandan accountant and politician. He was the State Minister for Tourism and Wildlife in the Ugandan Cabinet, from 1 June 2006 until 27 May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Agnes Akiror. He also served as the elected Member of Parliament representing Kabale Municipality from 2001 until 2011. During the 2011 national election cycle, he lost the Kabale Municipality parliamentary seat to Andrew Baryayanga.

Jenipher Kacha Namuyangu, also Jennifer Namuyangu Byakatonda, but commonly referred to as Jennifer Namuyangu, is a Ugandan politician and environmentalist. She belongs to the National Resistance Movement political party. She is the Minister of State for Local Government in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. She previously served as the Minister of State for Water Resources, from 1 June 2006 until 27 May 2011. In the Cabinet reshuffle on 27 May 2011, she was dropped from the cabinet and was replaced by Betty Bigombe. She also served as the elected Member of Parliament for Pallisa District Women's Representative, from 2001 until 2011. In 2010, Pallisa District was split into two, to create Kibuku District. Namuyangu contested for the parliamentary seat of Kibuku County, Kibuku District. She lost to Saleh Kamba by a wide margin.

Perez Ahabwe is a Ugandan economist and politician who was the State Minister for Local Government in Uganda from 16 February 2009 to 27 May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Alex Onzima. He also served as the elected member of Parliament, representing Rubanda County East, Kabale District, from 2001 to 2011, before losing to Henry Musasizi in the 2011 general election. On 7 June 2019, Ahabwe was appointed by Monica Azuba Ntege, Uganda's Minister of Works and Transport as the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Uganda Airlines National Company Board of Directors.

Rukiya Kulany Chekamondo, sometimes spelled as Rukia Kulany Chekamondo, is a Ugandan educator and politician. She was the State Minister for Privatization in the Ministry of Finance, from June 2006 until May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, she was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Aston Kajara. She also served as the elected Member of Parliament (MP), for Kapchorwa District Women's Representative, from 2006 until 2011. During the 2011 national elections, she was defeated by the current incumbent MP, Phyllis Chemutai, an Independent politician.

Rosemary Bikaako Tumusiime is a Ugandan marketing professional, public administrator, feminist and politician. She is the elected Member of Parliament for Entebbe Municipality and is a representative for NRM, the ruling political party in Uganda. She is the first female representative for the constituency in over three decades and succeeded Muhammad Kawuma who served for two consecutive terms from 2006 to 2016. Mparo is a town in the Western Region of Uganda and the political and administrative center of Rukiga District. However, the largest town in the district and its major commercial center is Muhanga.
