Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) is the principal Society in India serving the professions in areas of aeronautics, aerospace and aviation. Its stated primary purpose is to "advance the sciences, engineering, technology and management of aerospace, aeronautics and aviation and to foster and promote the professionalism of those engaged in these pursuits".
The Aeronautical Society of India a professional body, devoted to advancement of aeronautical sciences and engineering in India, was founded in 1948. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Patron-in-Chief of the Society.
The Society has more than 14000 members drawn from all major aeronautical establishments such as Defence Research & Development Establishments, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, DGCA, Academic Institutions, Aeronautical Development Agency, Indian Air Force, Indian Space Research Organization, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, National Airports Authority of India, Air India, Pawn Hans and private airlines. Most of the organizations / industries in this field in this country and abroad are Corporate Members of the Society.
Currently Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Former chairman of ISRO is the President of The Aeronautical Society of India.
The objectives of the Society are to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of aeronautical sciences and aircraft engineering and the elevation of the aeronautical profession.
The Aeronautical Society of India is the only forum in the country that provides intense interaction between professionals from all facets of civil and military aviation as well as the manufacturing/training/maintenance agencies. Over the years, the Aeronautical Society of India has generated large pool of aviation manpower through non-formal education and training programmes. .
1. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) [Approval Revoked on 31 May 2013, prior to this date approved by MHRD].
2. AICTE (All India Council For Technical Education) [Received approval on 31 October 2017 for Members registered on or before 31 May 2013].
3. IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) for MTech through GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering).
The Society is managed by a Council consisting of a President, President-Elect, Seven Vice Presidents, the Honorary Secretary General, Honorary Treasurer and fifteen Members, twelve of whom are elected and the other three nominated to represent special interests.
The Society's activities include fraternization among professionals, promotion of aeronautical activities and policy and increased awareness of indigenous / international information/events through lectures, workshops and seminars on subject of topical interest.
The Society also conducts examinations in aeronautical engineering twice a year. A pass in this examination has been recognized by the Central Government in the Ministry of education as being equivalent to a degree in Aerospace Engineering from an Indian University. Approximately 50 candidates professional graduate every year. The Society is thus rendering a yeoman's service by giving an opportunity to the young to acquire in Aerospace field without straining the educational system and providing flexibility to students to undertake this on a time flexibility basis. It also provides a centralized library facility to its members and students.
The Society publishes a quarterly journal containing Research Papers, Technical Papers, Full length Papers and Students papers on various facets of aeronautical and Aerospace sciences and a Monthly Newsletter.
The Society conducts and Annual Essay competition to recognize and encourage talent among students, engineers and scientist, and awards prizes to winners.
The Society also confers a number of awards for contributions in fundamental / applied research in the field of aeronautics and space, every year.
The society also conduct international conference about manufacturing, R&D with major aerospace companies such as Rolls-Royce, Airbus, and Boeing. A national conference is offered to have better industry interaction, mostly in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi.
The society also partly fund to the Indian student who want to release their paper worldwide with technical support.

Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, former Chairman ISRO
The AeSI conducts Associate Membership Examination twice a year. In which applicant has to clear a minimum 10 level of Section-A and 10 level of Section- B with training, Internship & projects of this examination which is recognized by the Ministry of Education, at par with a bachelor's degree (BS) in Aerospace Engineering of University from India.
This degree is recognized at par with British Bachelor Honors Degree in Engineering from Accredited UK University. Also Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) have MoU with Royal Aeronautical Society (RAes) to have higher degree co-operation between professional bodies.
The Institution of Engineers (India), the IEI, is a national organization for engineers in India. It is the world's largest multi-disciplinary engineering professional society. It has more than one million members in 15 engineering disciplines. The institution was established in 1920 in Kolkata, West Bengal, and was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935. It is currently headquartered at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata.
Satish Dhawan was an Indian mathematician and aerospace engineer, widely regarded as the father of experimental fluid dynamics research in India. Born in Srinagar, Dhawan was educated in India and further on in United States. Dhawan was one of the most eminent researchers in the field of turbulence and boundary layers, leading the successful and indigenous development of the Indian space programme. He succeeded M. G. K. Menon, as the third chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1972. The second launch pad of ISRO, Satish Dhawan space centre is named after him. He is greatly regarded as the man behind A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Mylswamy Annadurai, popularly known as Moon Man of India, is an Indian scientist working as vice president for Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chairman, Board of Governors, National Design and Research Forum(NDRF. He was born on 2 July 1958, in a village called Kothavadi near Pollachi in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu state of India). Prior to taking this assignment he was with Indian Space Research Organisation and served as Director, ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), Bangalore. During his 36 years of service in ISRO, he had some of the major contributions, including two of the major missions of ISRO, namely Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan. Annadurai has been listed among 100 Global thinkers of 2014 and topped the innovators list. His works are mentioned in textbooks of Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education
Indian Institute of Technology Madras is a public technical university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the eight public Institutes of Eminence of India. As one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), IIT Madras is also recognized as an Institute of National Importance.
G. Madhavan Nair is an Indian space scientist and a former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, and Secretary to the Department of Space, Government of India. He has also been the Chairman of the Space Commission and Chairman of the Governing Body of the Antrix Corporation, Bangalore.
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a government-aided institute and deemed university for the study and research of space science, located in Thiruvananthapuram,India. IIST was set up in 2007 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under the Department of Space, Government of India.
Byrana Nagappa Suresh is an Indian aerospace scientist. He is presently the Chancellor, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) at Thiruvananthapuram and Honorary Distinguished Professor at ISRO HQ. He was President Indian National Academy of Engineering, INAE at Delhi, for four years during 2015 to 2018. He served as the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram during the period 2003–2007. He is known for his contribution to the development of Indian launch vehicles, Space Capsule Recovery Experiments (SRE) and also for R& D management. Suresh also served as the founding director of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram. He retired from IIST in November 2010. He was Vikram Sarabhai Distinguished Professor at ISRO HQ for 5 years since November 2010 and also a professor at IIT, Mumbai and MIT, Manipal for 3 years. He was a member of the board of governors (BOG) for IIT, Madras for 7 years until July 2018. He is the vice chair for the Design Division of Aeronautical Society of India. He is one of the associate editors of the book From Fishing Hamlet To Red Planet and a co-author of Ever Upwards: ISRO in Images, both tracing the history of Indian Space Research Organisation. He is the President of the reputed Jnanadeepa Senior Secondary School and Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Education
Satya Atluri was an Indian American engineer, educator, researcher and scientist in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering and computational sciences, who was a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. Since 1966, he made fundamental contributions to the development of finite element methods, boundary element methods, Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) methods, Fragile Points Methods (FPM), Local Variational Iteration Methods, for general problems of engineering, solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, flexoelectricity, ferromagnetics, gradient and nonlocal theories, nonlinear dynamics, shell theories, micromechanics of materials, structural integrity and damage tolerance, Orbital mechanics, Astrodynamics, digital Twins of Aerospace Systems, etc.
Jabalpur Engineering College (JEC) is an institute located in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the oldest technical institution in central India and the 15th-oldest in India. It is the first institute of India to have started the Electronics & Telecommunication engineering education in the country, and also the last educational institution to be set up by the British in India. Parivakkam Subramaniam Veeraraghavan is a well known space scientist and rocket technologist of India. He has served as the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and as the Director of ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU), Thiruvananthapuram. One of the most senior scientists at Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Veeraraghavan is known for his contributions to launch vehicle technology, especially in the areas of integration & checkout and Inertial Systems of ISROs launch vehicles. Presently, he is holding the honorary position of Prof. Vikram Sarabhai Distinguished Professor in VSSC, ISRO since January 2013.
Aero India Seminar is a biennial seminar held in Bangalore, India. It is jointly organized by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India and Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). The seminar precedes the Aero India airshow and exhibition held in Yelahanka Airforce Station, Bangalore.
Chandrathil Gouri Krishnadas Nair is an Indian technocrat, teacher and metallurgical scientist known for his contributions in the field of aeronautical metallurgy. Dr Nair was given the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for his contributions to science and technology in 2001.
Professor Bhagavatula Dattaguru is an Indian engineer and academic. He has received several awards, including the Padma Shri Award, India's fourth highest civilian honour in 2005 in the field of science and engineering.
Aluru Seelin Kiran Kumar is an Indian space scientist and former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, having assumed office on 14 January 2015. He is credited with the development of key scientific instruments aboard the Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan space crafts. In 2014, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of science and technology. Kiran Kumar previously served as Director of Ahmedabad Space Applications Centre.
Vasudevan Gnana Gandhi is an Indian rocket scientist, known as the pioneer of cryogenic rocket science in India. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, Gandhi started his career by joining the Indian Space Research Organization in 1968 and held many positions such as Project Director and Programme Director at ISRO. His contributions are reported behind the development of booster liquid stages of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle and the uprating of VIKAS engine. A recipient of the Aeronautical Society of India Award, Gandhi was honored by the Government of India, in 2005, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri. Currently, Vasudevan Gnana Gandhi is working as Senior Vice President-Propulsion at Skyroot Aerospace, Hyderabad and also as chief academic advisor to Givemefive.ai.
Prem Shanker Goel is an Indian space scientist, former secretary at the Department of Ocean Development, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India and a former director of Indian Space Research Organization. He was honored by the Government of India, in 2001, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri.
Prahlada Rama Rao is an Indian missile scientist, former vice chancellor of Defence Institute of Advanced Technology and a former director of Defence Research and Development Laboratory, the largest of the Defence Research and Development Organization laboratories in India, known for his contributions to Indian space programme. He was honoured by the Government of India in 2015 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award.
Vishnu Madav Ghatage (1908–1991) was an Indian aeronautical engineer, known for his pioneering conceptual and engineering contributions to Indian aeronautics. He led the team which designed and developed HAL HT-2, the first Indian designed and built aircraft. He was honoured by the Government of India in 1965, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his services to the nation.
Tumkur Seetharamaiah Prahlad is an Indian aerospace scientist and the former director of the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bengaluru, known as a specialist in Aerodynamics and Aerospace Design. His contributions are reported in Indian civil aircraft development programmes of Hansa and NAL Saras and light combat aircraft development programme. The Government of India awarded him the civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2004, The same year, he received the H. K. Firodia Award from H. K. Firodia Memorial Foundation.
Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE), formerly Noorul Islam College of Engineering, is a private co-educational Institution in Kumarakovil, Thuckalay, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India. The institution was founded in 1989 by A.P. Majeed Khan and it was declared as a Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India at 8 December 2008. It is now run by Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE) Society.
