Afterward is a repeatedly announced American thriller drama film that was supposed to be written and directed by Dito Montiel. [1] The film was supposed to star Aaron Eckhart, Terrence Howard, and George Lopez. Announced in 2019, with director Montiel, and Eckhart, Howard and Lopez attached, filming was finally announced in March 2020, [2] [3] and then delayed to Spring 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. [4] The entire production went silent until September 2023, when the original slate of participants were gone and director Amin Matalqa and actress Beverly D'Angelo were attached, with filming expected to begin in October and November 2023.
In September 2019, Angel Oak Films announced that they would produce and fully fund the Cineville production to be directed by Dito Montiel and starring Aaron Eckhart. [5] [6]
The following year, Grindstone Entertainment Group acquired the distribution rights for North America and Latin America. [7]
In December 2020, George Lopez joined Eckhart and Terrence Howard in the cast of the film. [8] [9]
Principal photography supposedly began on March 14, 2021 and concluded on April 14, 2021 in Humboldt County, California. [10]
No further updates about filming, post-production, nor possible release dates had been provided until September 2023, when it was suddenly revealed that the entire production had been changed, with director Montiel and actors Elkhart, Howard and Lopez no longer attached; the film would supposedly be directed by Amin Matalqa and possibly star Beverly D'Angelo, with no other actors announced, and would be filmed in Louisiana beginning in October and November 2023.
