Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe, or simply Agent Binky, is a Canadian animated television series developed by Carolyn Hay and Hugh Duffy and produced by Nelvana. Loosely based on the Kids Can Press graphic novel series by Ashley Spires, the series premiered on Treehouse TV in Canada on September 7, 2019. [1] 104 episodes were currently produced.

Premise

The series follows the adventures of Binky, a young housecat who, after she becomes a space agent, is on a mission to protect his human family (Big Human and Small Human) from any interstellar threats. With the assistance from P.U.R.S.T. (Pets of the Universe Ready for Space Travel), a fictional agency from a set of four different pets lives in, Binky find themselves from the team P.U.R.S.T., who are the case from the Persian cat boss known as Sergeant Fluffy Vandermere. On September 19, 2018, it was announced that Nelvana would adapt the Kids Can Press graphic novel series "Binky the Space Cat" by Ashley Spires into an animated television series titled "P.U.R.S.T. Agent Binky". Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe was picked up for 52 11-minute episodes (often broadcast as 26 22-minutes [1] ) and was set to be released in 2019. [3] [4] The following February, it was revealed that the series was retitled to Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe, making it one of the first produced by redknot, a joint venture between Nelvana and Discovery Communications to produce content for Canada, Latin America and the rest of the world. [5]

On January 7, 2021, Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe was renewed for a second season of another 52 11-minute episodes. The second season premiered in 2022. [6]

Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe premiered on Treehouse TV in Canada on September 7, 2019. The show currently airs every day at 12:40 PM and 7:30 PM, and some interstitial episodes air on the channel as well. [1] The show also airs on Discovery Kids in Latin America, TF1 in France and Boomerang across Europe. In Singapore, it debuted on Channel 5 on June 15, 2020. [8] In the United Kingdom, the series debuted on Tiny Pop on June 21, 2021. It also aired on SX3 in Catalonia and TvG2 in Galicia. In the United States, the series will be released on Peacock on August 15, 2024. [9]

In French Canada, the show premiered on ICI Radio-Canada Télé on September 19, 2020. [10]

Michael Hirsh (born 1948) is a Belgian-born Canadian producer, TV executive, entrepreneur, and author. He has been attributed to building from the ground up the Canadian animation industry and, more specifically, award-winning children's programming since the 1980s.  He co-founded Nelvana, a Canadian based animation and entertainment studio in 1971 with partners Patrick Loubert and Clive A. Smith producing numerous cartoons that established Nelvana as a leader in the industry including Little Bear, Franklin, Babar, Max & Ruby, The Magic School Bus, Care Bears, Adventures of TinTin, Inspector Gadget, Droids  and  Ewoks, among many, many others. After Corus Entertainment's acquisition of Nelvana, Hirsh became CEO of Cookie Jar Entertainment, which created numerous highly popular children's shows, among them  Arthur,  Johnny Test, and Strawberry Shortcake. When Cookie Jar was acquired by DHX Media Hirsh became the Executive Chairman of the company, the largest supplier of kids programming to online streaming services as well as a leader in production and licensing and merchandising for children. Three years after the acquisition by DHX Media, Hirsh left the company to serve as CEO and chairman of WOW! Unlimited Media from 2015 to December 2023.

Seven Little Monsters, or 7 Little Monsters, is a Canadian animated children's television series about a family of seven monsters and their mother. The series, based on the book of the same name, was created by Maurice Sendak and directed by Neil Affleck, Lynn Reist, and Glenn Sylvester. Snowsnaps is a Canadian animated television series. It is a preschool-aimed spinoff of the 2015 film Snowtime!, itself an animated remake of the 1984 live-action The Dog Who Stopped the War movie. Produced by Carpediem Film & TV in collaboration with the animation studio Singing Frog and broadcaster Corus Entertainment, the series premiered September 1, 2018 in Canada on Télétoon, La Chaîne Disney and Treehouse TV.

Ashley Spires is a Canadian children's book author and illustrator. She is the creator of the Binky the Space Cat graphic novels series and the 2014 bestseller, The Most Magnificent Thing.

Gabby's Dollhouse is an American live-action/animated interactive preschool television series created by Blue's Clues veterans Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey for Netflix which first premiered on January 5, 2021. In the series, Gabby and her cat friends called the Gabby Cats go on adventures inside the dollhouse.
