Aijaz Ahmad Mir is an Indian politician and the former member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly who represented Wachi assembly constituency of the Jammu and Kashmir (state). [2] [3] He is affiliated with Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party.
Aijaz Ahmed Mir belongs to a well-known and prominent political family of Wachi in Shopian. His father,who served as an MLA migrated from Zainapora to Srinagar MLA hostel in 1993-94. [4] He was a holding a political post in National Conference party.
Prior to entering into politics,his father was in the business of running a Rice mill and brand saw. He contested 1996 elections as NC Candidate and won by a huge majority. [5]
When his father passed away in 1999,Aijaz Ahmed Mir was studying in class 7th in DBN school Jammu. He came back to Kashmir and joined school at Govt Higher Secondary School Zainapora,where he completed his 12th and later did his graduation (BSC in Seed Technology) from Degree College Anantnag.
After that he joined Kashmir University in 2008 and completed his LLB from the varsity in 2011.
In the same year,he contested Panchayat elections and won the election as Sarpanch from Halqa Panchayat Zainapora and thereby becoming the youngest Sarpanch in the history of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Later he was also elected as president jammu and Kashmir panch and sarpanch united forum were he worked tirelessly for empowerment of PRIs in jammu and Kashmir.
In 2014,Aijaz formally joined Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party [6] and subsequently contested legislative assembly elections wherein he emerged victorious. [7] [8]
He was the second youngest MLA elected to the J&K legislative assembly. [9]
After the abrogation of article 370 in 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir,Mir was sent to jail and was released from detention after more than six months. [10] [11]
Aijaz was incriminated by the government officials including Bhartiya Janata Party over referring the Kashmiri militants to "martyrs". [12]
In October 2018,one of Mir's security personnel who was later identified as a militant via Social media videos,fled with weapons including eight AK-47 rifles and one handgun at Jawahar Nagar Srinagar which was the official residence of the legislator. [13]
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was a politician from the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. He started in the wing of the National Conference led by G. M. Sadiq,which later merged into the Indian National Congress. He switched to Janata Dal in 1987,eventually founding his own regional party,People's Democratic Party (PDP). He served twice as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir,during November 2002–November 2005 and March 2015–January 2016. He was also Minister of Tourism in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet and Home Minister of India in V. P. Singh's cabinet. The PDP continues to be a political force in Jammu and Kashmir,currently led by his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.
Mehbooba Mufti is an Indian politician of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),who served as the last Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir as a State,from 4 April 2016 to 19 June 2018. After the revocation of the special status (autonomy) of the state in August 2019,Mufti was detained without any charges at first and later under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act. She was released only in October 2020,after the Supreme Court of India quizzed the government about the length of her detention.
Farooq Abdullah is an Indian politician and President of Jammu &Kashmir National Conference. The Jammu &Kashmir National Panthers Party is a state political party in the state of Jammu and Kashmir,India. The party was founded on 23 March 1982 by Prof. Bhim Singh and a few prominent youth political personalities of the time including Jay Mala,former President of the Indian Students Congress. Its aim is to "demolish corruption,communalism,criminalization,drug menace" and to establish a real democracy through ultimate revolution. Panthers Party had campaigned for over three decades for the abolition of Article 370 and Article 35A,demanding that the special status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir be revoked,and for it to be fully assimilated into the Republic of India. These demands were finally met by a presidential order in August 2019 that revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special status. Panthers Party campaigns for a further division of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,with the recognition of Hindu-majority Jammu Division as a new and separate state of India. In 2017,Ankit Love,the son of Bhim Singh and Jay Mala,announced his candidacy for Prime Minister of India for the 2019 Indian general election. He became the party's leader on 28 May 2017. On 23 June 2021,Panthers Party President Prof. Bhim Singh was reported in the media as a potential candidate for the 2022 Indian vice presidential election,as recommended for nomination by Ankit Love,just prior to meeting Prime Minister Modi at his residence for special dialogue in regards to the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
Yasin Malik is a Kashmiri separatist leader and former militant who advocates the separation of Kashmir from both India and Pakistan. In March 2020,Malik was charged for the murder of four Indian Air Force personnel during an attack in 1990 and is currently under trial. He is also facing trial for the kidnapping of Rubaiyya Sayeed. He is currently lodged in Tihar jail.
Shopian or Shupiyan,known as Shupyan in Kashmiri,is a hill district with its administrative division in Shopian,located in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,since it is situated on the historical road commonly known as Mughal Road,most of its area is occupied by forests. Shopian district comes under the Pir Panjal Range which makes it very cold in winter. After partition of India,it was a tehsil of Pulwama district. In March,2007,the district status was granted by the Government of India. The economy of the district depends on agriculture,particularly apple growing. Shopian is 22 km (14 mi) from Aglar which connects it with Pulwama district and is one of the border towns of the district.

He was one of close aides of Mufti with a popular public base in South Kashmir. Now associated with the newly formed Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party. Mir has been the key person behind Party's formation along with its founder President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari.
Elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are conducted in accordance with the Constitution of India to elect the representatives of various bodies at national,state and district levels including the 114 seat unicameral Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and the Parliament of India.
