Airdash was a technical/progressive thrash/speed metal - band, formed in the middle of the 1980s, 1986. They were one of the most popular Thrash/Speed metal - groups in Finland in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Like their Speed metal - comrades, Stone, they never had much attention from foreign countries. They were called as "The little brother of Stone" because unlike Stone they never fought their way up to the mainstream. When they were on the top of their popularity they were also the warm-up band in Finland for Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies and Kreator. Their original bassist, "Sidi" left the band because he was not able to play the songs in the studio. His place took Kirka Sainio. In 1990 the band's longtime lead guitarist Markku "Nirri" Niiranen left the band to join Stone and he was replaced by Tommy Dolivo.

Progressive metal is a fusion genre melding heavy metal and progressive rock that combines the loud "aggression" and amplified guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or "pseudo-classical" compositions of the latter.

Thrash metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by its overall aggression and often fast tempo. The songs usually use fast percussive beats and low-register guitar riffs, overlaid with shredding-style lead work. The lyrics often deal with social issues and criticism of The Establishment, using direct and denunciatory language, an approach borrowed from hardcore punk.

Speed metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the late 1970s from new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) roots. It is described by AllMusic as "extremely fast, abrasive, and technically demanding" music.

Formed in 1993 by drummer Nalle Österman, guitarist Timo Nyberg and vocalist Jari Hurskainen, with session drummer Mika "Gas Lipstick" Karppinen, who later achieved fame playing with the band HIM. The name Gandalf came from when the founding fans of the band used to refer to Gandalf's guitarist as the guitar wizard, Gandalf. Since then, the band decided to call their band Gandalf.
