Airdrie is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament which will elect one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is also form of nine constituencies in the Central Scotland and Lothians West electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole. [2] The seat was created following the second periodic review of Scottish Parliament boundaries, and will be first contested at the 2026 Scottish Parliament election. [3] It is a direct replacement for the previous Airdrie and Shotts constituency, having identical boundaries to the former seat. [4]

Electoral region

The other eight constituencies of the Central Scotland and Lothians West region are Almond Valley, Bathgate, Coatbridge and Chryston, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, Falkirk East and Linlithgow, Falkirk West, Motherwell and Wishaw, and Uddingston and Bellshill. [2] The region includes all of the Falkirk, North Lanarkshire and West Lothian council areas, and parts of the South Lanarkshire council area. [5]

Constituency boundaries and council area

Airdrie lies entirely within the North Lanarkshire council area, and covers the entirety of the North Lanarkshire Council wards of Airdrie North, Airdrie Central North, and Airdrie South North, and part of the Fortissat ward. [6]
