The Ajax Sportsplex is a baseball and softball facility located in Ajax, Ontario, Canada that hosted the baseball and softball competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games. [1] During the games the venue was known as the President's Choice Ajax Ballpark. [2]

Description

The facility consists of four softball diamonds and two baseball diamonds at Taunton Road and Audley Road in north east Ajax. [3] Prior to the games the facility received 9 million dollars in upgrades to ensure it met World Baseball Softball Confederation standards, which included converting two soccer fields into a baseball diamond and the adjacent existing baseball diamond being rebuilt with new sod and clay. [4] During the games the Sportsplex housed four stadiums. Two premier fields had temporary seating for 5,000 each, with one being for baseball and one for softball and two competition fields had 1,200 seats each (one for each sport). [5]

Requirements

The Organizers set a few benchmarks for selecting the venue. [6]

Hamilton [6] and Vaughan [7] considered bidding, but ultimately chose not to.

The 2015 Pan American Games, officially the XVII Pan American Games and commonly known as the Toronto 2015 Pan-Am Games, were a major international multi-sport event celebrated in the tradition of the Pan American Games, as governed by Pan American Sports Organization (PASO). Clay Gould Ballpark

Clay Gould Ballpark, the home field of the UT Arlington Mavericks, is located on the campus of The University of Texas at Arlington. The stadium has a seat capacity of 1,600. Clay Gould Ballpark is located at the intersection of West Park Row Drive and Fielder Road.

Back Campus Fields

The Back Campus Fields is a field hockey facility on the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The facility is the home to the school's Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team. The facility was built for the 2015 Pan American Games and hosted the field hockey competition for the games. The facility also hosted 5 and 7-a-side football competitions during the 2015 Parapan American Games. The facility was referred to as the Pan Am/Parapan Am Fields during the games.

The 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games venues were mostly located in the host city of Toronto, Ontario, though some events required facilities located elsewhere. Besides Toronto, fourteen other municipalities in Southern Ontario hosted competitions: Ajax, Hamilton, Innisfil, Markham, Milton, Minden, Mississauga, Mono, Oro-Medonte, Oshawa, Palgrave, St. Catharines, Welland and Whitby.

The 2015 Parapan American Games, officially the V Parapan American Games and commonly known as the Toronto 2015 ParaPan-Am Games, were a major international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities, celebrated in the tradition of the Parapan American Games as governed by the Americas Paralympic Committee, held from August 7 to 15, 2015 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Marking the first Parapan American games hosted by Canada, and the second major Paralympic sports event hosted by Toronto since the 1976 Summer Paralympics, the Games were held at venues in Toronto and four other Golden Horseshoe communities. Both the Parapan American and Pan American Games were organized by the Toronto 2015 Organizing Committee (TO2015).

York Lions Stadium

York Lions Stadium is an outdoor athletics facility on the campus of Toronto's York University. It is home to the York Lions, the athletic teams of York University. The facility was primarily built for the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games, where it hosted track and field events and the opening ceremony. During the games the venue was known as the CIBC Pan Am and Parapan Am Athletics Stadium.

The Centennial Park Pan Am BMX Centre is a BMX cycling facility at Centennial Park in the Etobicoke district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that hosted BMX Cycling at the 2015 Pan American Games. During the games the venue included temporary seating for 2,000 spectators.

Allan Saxe Field

Allan Saxe Field is the home of the UTA Mavericks softball team located in Arlington, Texas. As a result of a complete reconstruction in 2014–15, the stadium currently has a capacity of 622. A sellout crowd of 702 set a new attendance record on March 12, 2016 when Samford visited. The previous record of 474 was set against the University of Texas on March 11, 2010 when stadium capacity was 250. In 2016, Allan Saxe also drew crowds of 622, 522 and 512 that would have set the record had it occurred in any year prior. Adjacent to Clay Gould Ballpark, the stadium is located at the intersection of W. Park Row Drive and Fielder Road.

Women's baseball made its Pan American Games debut, after being added to the program at the 2013 Pan American Sports Organization's general assembly. A total of seven men's and five women's teams competed in each tournament respectively.

Football 7-a-side competitions at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto were held from 8 to 15 August at the Pan Am / Parapan Am Fields, which are located on the back campus of the University of Toronto. Football 7-a-side make its return to the program, after last being staged in 2007. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As Brazil won the competition the second place Argentina qualified for the Paralympics.

Table tennis competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 19 to 25 at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Markham. Due to naming rights, the arena was known as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of four table tennis events were held: two each for men and women.

The women's baseball tournament at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, was held at the President's Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark in Ajax, from July 20 to 26. Women's baseball was making its Pan American Games debut, after being added to the program at the 2013 Pan American Sports Organization's general assembly.

The Ontario Place West Channel, also known as the Toronto Western Beaches Watercourse is a 'flat water' training and competition centre for rowing, paddling and water sports located on the shoreline of Lake Ontario in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Baseball competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, were held from July 27 to August 4. The venue for the competition was the baseball stadium located at the Villa María del Triunfo cluster. A total of eight men's teams competed. This meant a total of 192 athletes were scheduled to compete. After being contested for the first time ever in 2015, the women's event was dropped for this edition.
