Ajit Kumar Bhuyan (born 1952) is an Indian politician and former journalist and author serving as the member of Rajya Sabha from Assam since 2020 and the founder and president of Anchalik Gana Mocha since 2020. [1] He is also the former editor of the Asomiya Pratidin,Aji,Natun Samay, [2] and Prag News. [3]
Ajit Kumar Bhuyan was born in Jorhat,India in 1952. He had his early schooling in Amguri High School,in Sibsagar district,Assam and attended college in Sibsagar College. Before he could graduate,he joined the Dainik Janambhumi,published from Jorhat,as a sub-editor. While still working as a sub-editor,he earned his BA degree from Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College,Sivasagar.[ citation needed ]
In June 2020 Ajit Kumar Bhuyan formed a regional political party,Anchalik Gana Morcha (Regional People's Front),as its chief convenor. [4]
He has said in a press conference after his election that Citizenship (Amendment) Act,2019 (CAA) was the reason behind joining politics. His candidature was supported by the Indian National Congress and All India United Democratic Front. Tarun Gogoi and Badruddin Ajmal were present during his nomination. Mr Bhuyan is a fierce critic of CAA introduced and passed in the Indian parliament by the Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party Government. [5]
Asom Gana Parishad is a political party in the state of Assam,India. The AGP was formed following the historic Assam Accord of 1985 and formally launched at the Golaghat Convention held from 13–14 October 1985 in Golaghat,which also allowed Prafulla Kumar Mahanta who was the youngest chief minister of the state to be elected. The AGP has formed government twice from 1985 to 1989 and from 1996 to 2001.

Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is an Indian politician who was the leader of the Assam Movement,and the 11th Chief Minister of Assam from 1985 to 1990 and again from 1996 to 2001 and the co-founder and former President of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP),a major political party in the Indian state of Assam. He was representing the Barhampur constituency in Assam Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 2021 and Nowgong constituency from 1985 to 1991.He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2014 and again from 1991 to 1996.He became the chief minister in the state when the AGP came to power in 1985,becoming the youngest Chief Minister of an Indian state. He is also a former president of the All Assam Students Union,an organization that spearheaded the Assam Movement from 1979 to 1985.In August 2005,his membership in the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was terminated. So,he floated a new political party,Asom Gana Parishad (Progressive) on 15 September 2005.
Sarbananda Sonowal is an Indian politician of Bharatiya Janata Party from Assam who is serving as the current Cabinet Minister of Ports,Shipping and Waterways and Cabinet Minister of AYUSH,Government of India and the member of the Rajya Sabha representing Assam since 2021 and also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs since 2021. He was also the member of the Asom Gana Parishad from 2001 to 2011.
Bijoya Chakravarty,is an Indian politician of Bharatiya Janata Party. She served as the Member of the Lok Sabha from Gauhati from 2009 to 2019 and from 1999 to 2004. The All People's Party or Sarbadal was a political party in Assam,northeast India. The party was founded in Dibrugarh by Ahom elites on May 8,1945. It united different groups that sought to challenge the Indian National Congress in elections. The All India Muslim League,the Tribal League and the Ahom Sabha took part in the founding of the party. The party sought to mobilise the Kachari,Muttock and Deuri communities,to compete against caste Hindus for political influence. To a large extent,the party represented tea garden labourers. During its initial period,the party demanded that the British colonial government should create a separate Ahom constituency. The party cooperated with the Muslim League,being united in their opposition against the Congress party.

Originally a leader in the Asom Gana Parishad,in June 2015 he abandoned the faltering AGP for the Bharatiya Janata Party. He served as the chairman of Assam Petro-Chemicals until 2019.
