Asom Gana Parishad is a political party in the state of Assam,India. The AGP was formed following the historic Assam Accord of 1985 and formally launched at the Golaghat Convention held from 13–14 October 1985 in Golaghat,which also allowed Prafulla Kumar Mahanta who was the youngest chief minister of the state to be elected. The AGP has formed government twice from 1985 to 1989 and from 1996 to 2001.
Lachit Barphukan was an Ahom Borphukan,primarily known for commanding the Ahom Army and the victory in the Battle of Saraighat (1671) that thwarted an invasion by the vastly superior Mughal Forces under the command of Ramsingh I. He died about a year later in April 1672.

Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is an Indian politician who was the leader of the Assam Movement,and the 11th Chief Minister of Assam from 1985 to 1990 and again from 1996 to 2001 and the co-founder and former President of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP),a major political party in the Indian state of Assam. He was representing the Barhampur constituency in Assam Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 2021 and Nowgong constituency from 1985 to 1991.He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2014 and again from 1991 to 1996.He became the chief minister in the state when the AGP came to power in 1985,becoming the youngest Chief Minister of an Indian state. He is also a former president of the All Assam Students Union,an organization that spearheaded the Assam Movement from 1979 to 1985.In August 2005,his membership in the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was terminated. So,he floated a new political party,Asom Gana Parishad (Progressive) on 15 September 2005.
Sarbananda Sonowal is an Indian politician of Bharatiya Janata Party from Assam who is serving as the current Cabinet Minister of Ports,Shipping and Waterways and Cabinet Minister of AYUSH,Government of India and the member of the Rajya Sabha representing Assam since 2021 and also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs since 2021. He is the 14th Chief Minister of Assam from 2016 to 2021 and the former of Assam Legislative Assembly from Majuli from 2016 until he resigned in 2021 and from Moran constituency from 2001 to 2004. Sonowal earlier served as the Assam state unit President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2015 to 2016. He has also served as the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs,Government of India,from 2014 to 2016 and the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development from 2014 to 2014 and the member of the Lok Sabha from Lakhimpur from 2014 to 2016 and from Dibrugarh from 2004 to 2009. He was also the member of the Asom Gana Parishad from 2001 to 2011.
Bijoya Chakravarty,is an Indian politician of Bharatiya Janata Party. She served as the Member of the Lok Sabha from Gauhati from 2009 to 2019 and from 1999 to 2004. She was the Union Minister of State for Water Resources from 1999 to 2004. She was also the Member of the Rajya Sabha from 1986 to 1992 as a member of the Asom Gana Parishad. The All People's Party or Sarbadal was a political party in Assam,northeast India. The party was founded in Dibrugarh by Ahom elites on May 8,1945. It united different groups that sought to challenge the Indian National Congress in elections. The All India Muslim League,the Tribal League and the Ahom Sabha took part in the founding of the party. The party sought to mobilise the Kachari,Muttock and Deuri communities,to compete against caste Hindus for political influence. To a large extent,the party represented tea garden labourers. During its initial period,the party demanded that the British colonial government should create a separate Ahom constituency. The party cooperated with the Muslim League,being united in their opposition against the Congress party.

His role as a party leader is pivotal for the success of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the whole North-Eastern Part of India along with the convener of North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma who is the current Chief Minister of Assam.
Bhubaneswar Kalita is an Indian social worker,politician and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party serving as the Member of Rajya Sabha from Assam since 2020,from 2014 to 2019,2008 to 2014,1990 to 1996 and 1984 to 1990. He was member of Lok Sabha From 1998 to 1999. Earlier,he was member of Indian National Congress.He was also MLA of Assam from Rangiya from 2001 to 2006 and a minister in the Government of Assam from 2002 to 2004 and president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee from 2004 to 2006.
Jagadish Bhuyan is an Indian student leader and politician associated with the Assam Movement,who served two terms as an MLA of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Sadiya legislative assembly constituency in Tinsukia district,and as tourism minister in the Prafulla Kumar Mahanta government from 1998 to 2001. Originally a leader in the Asom Gana Parishad,in June 2015 he abandoned the faltering AGP for the Bharatiya Janata Party. He served as the chairman of Assam Petro-Chemicals until 2019.

Anchalik Gana Morcha is an regional Indian political party,launched in June 2020 in Assam. It is led by former Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan. It is part of the Mahajot (Assam) and contested the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election as a part of the Mahajot under the leadership of the Indian National Congress (INC). It is the only party from opposition to have a seat in Rajya Sabha from Assam.
