Akulaku is a Southeast Asian fintech unicorn that provides consumer credit, digital banking, wealth management, and insurance brokerage services. [1] [2]

History

Akulaku was officially founded in 2016 by William Li and Gordon Hu. [3] [4] Before it became Akulaku, the company began in 2014 by providing cross-border remittance services for domestic workers in Hong Kong as Silvrr before branching out to operate its online credit and e-commerce platform in Indonesia and the Philippines. [5] In 2016, the company pivoted into a fintech company. [6]

In 2019, Akulaku acquired an Indonesian bank called PT Bank Yudha Bhakti Tbk (BBYB) and later renamed it PT Bank Neo Commerce Tbk (BNC). [7]

The group was founded in October 1972 by Sudono Salim and his junior partner Sutanto Djuhar. The current CEO is Anthoni Salim, a son of Sudono Salim.

Gojek launched its application in 2015 with only four services: GoRide, GoSend, GoShop, and GoFood. Valued at US$10 billion today, Gojek has transformed into a super app, providing more than 20 services.

PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk or Alfamart is a primarily-franchised Indonesian convenience store chain. As of June 2023, it has over 18,000 stores in 27 provinces spread across Indonesia, with 4 million daily customers and tens of thousands of micro, small and medium-scale business partners. Alfamart also has about 1,000 outlets in the Philippines. The business was started in December 1989 as a trading and distribution company in Jakarta by its president, Djoko Susanto. Ten years later, Susanto ventured into the convenience store category with Alfa Minimart, with their first branch being in Karawaci, Tangerang, Banten. Later renamed as Alfamart, the convenience store brand has since expanded to the Philippines, with its first Philippine branch located in Trece Martires, Cavite.

PT Trinusa Travelindo, operating as Traveloka is an Indonesian technology company focused on travel and ticketing. Operating a services website of the same name and based out of Jakarta, Indonesia, Traveloka is active in six countries, and in 2022 remained the largest online travel app in Southeast Asia. Founded in 2012 as a travel search engine, it now also offers services such as attraction tickets, activities, transportation rentals, and restaurant vouchers. It also provides financial services such as credit and insurance. Classified as a unicorn company and regarded as functionally similar to Expedia, in 2022 it was valued approximately at US$3 billion.

PT Bukalapak.com Tbk, trading as Bukalapak, is an Indonesian e-commerce company. It was founded in 2010 as an online marketplace to facilitate online commerce for small and medium enterprises (SME). Bukalapak later expanded to digitise small family-owned businesses, known in Indonesia as warungs. The company is involved in the operations of approximately 25% of Indonesian warungs through its Mitra programme.

OVO, officially a product of PT Visionet Internasional, is a digital payment service based in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was established in 2017 with an e-money license from Bank Indonesia, and in 2019 was Indonesia's top digital payment service. Owned by Grab and local investors, in 2019, OVO became Indonesia's first finance-tech business unicorn.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">FWD Group</span> Insurance company based in Hong Kong

FWD Group is a multinational insurance company based in Hong Kong. Founded in 2013 as the insurance arm of Pacific Century Group, FWD Group sells life and medical insurance, general insurance and employee benefits in Asia. The company had USD$50.9 billion in assets under management in 2020 and in 2021 was managing US$63 billion in assets. On March 13, 2023, FWD Group refiled its Main Board listing application with The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. The initial filing was made on February 28, 2022. In 2023, FWD celebrated its 10th anniversary, and currently operates in Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia.
