Al Shaheed Park is the largest urban park in Kuwait, sitting at about 78.5 acres. [1] Al Shaheed Park is considered the most significant green infrastructure project in Kuwait and has one of the largest overstructure greenroofs in the world.

Contents

The park is part of the new Kuwait National Cultural District (KNCD). [2] The park consists of several phases. Phase II was inaugurated in April 2017 and Phase III (the largest) is currently under construction and was set to open in July 2024 but as of November 2024 there are talks of deadline extension. [3]

Overview

Al Shaheed Park is a comprehensive cultural complex featuring contemporary architecture and artistic installations. The park includes various gardens, walkways, museums, exhibition spaces, and outdoor theaters for cultural events. Its development occurs in phases, with Phase II opening in April 2017, introducing additions such as a skate park, youth complex, and open-air performance center. [4]

Al Shaheed Park landscapes also hold multiple historical zones such as the Memorial zone and the Museum zone. The park is part of the new Kuwait National Cultural District (KNCD). [5] [2]

The park was an original component of the 1952 Kuwait master plan, but after construction on what is now phase 1, the rest of the project was put on hold to be revived once again in 2013

Museums

Al Shaheed Park contains two museums: Remembrance Museum and Habitat Museum. [2]

The Memorial Museum exhibits important events in Kuwaiti history. [6] In the center of the museum, there are four icons which symbolize the four most important battles in the history of Kuwait. [6]

The Habitat Museum is an exhibit about natural habitats of Kuwait, with a large number of interactive programs and scenographic recreations. Recreations of the plants and animals of Kuwait coexist with large format audiovisual productions. The museums offers an audio guide system. [6]

In May 2019, the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway opened as part of the Silk City project's first phase, the project's first phase also includes Mubarak Al Kabeer Port which is currently under construction. The Silk City project is part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

Construction on a large scale has turned Dubai into one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. There are a number of large-scale projects which are currently under construction or are to be constructed in the future. Due to the heavy construction which is taking place in Dubai, 30,000 construction cranes, which are 25% of cranes worldwide, are operating in Dubai. Due to the burst of construction, Dubai has acquired various building-related records, which include: the world's tallest tower, the world's largest shopping mall, the world's largest fountain and the world's tallest hotel. Also under construction is Dubailand, which will be almost twice the size of the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway is a causeway in Kuwait with an estimated construction value of approximately US$2,66 billion under China's Belt and Road Initiative, the causeway is part of the first phase of the Silk City project. The causeway spans the Bay of Kuwait in two directions and comprises two projects: Main Link, which connects Kuwait City with northern Kuwait ; and Doha Link, which connects Kuwait City with Doha. It crosses two artificial islands which were constructed for entertainment and tourism purposes. The causeway project is part of Kuwait Vision 2035.

It consists of six main components; The Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Space Museum, Arabic Islamic Science Museum, Fine Arts Centre and the external spaces known as the Public Realm. The Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre is a 18-hectare site making it the world's largest museum complex. The Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre was inaugurated in early 2018, it was the world's largest single-delivery museum project.

The Al Salam Palace is a historic palace and museum located in Shuwaikh, Kuwait. It was originally established as an idea envisioned by the late Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah in the late 1950s, when he aspired to build a special mansion for him and his family. To achieve that, the late Amir headed to Egypt to search for a specialized architect who could turn his vision of the mansion into reality. He eventually commissioned architect Medhat Al-Abed, who designed a round-shaped palace with magnificent interior decorations. Al Salam Palace is part of the new Kuwait National Cultural District (KNCD).

Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City is a city and area in Al Khiran, Kuwait built with canals forming 200 kilometres (120 mi) of artificial shoreline. The concept of the area is unusual because it was built excavating large channels in desert land rather than using reclaimed land.
