The Alabio duck (Indonesian : Itik Alabio) is an Indonesian breed of domestic duck from North Hulu Sungai Regency.

Description

Named after Alabio by Saleh Pupso, [1] the duck is a result of crossbreeding between local regional ducks and Pekins. With a population of 3.487 million individuals in 2006, it is a popular choice for farmers due to their great egg laying attributes as well as their large bodies which offers plenty of meat. [2]

The Orpington or Buff Orpington Duck is a breed of domestic duck. It is a dual-purpose breed used for meat and egg production. It is capable of laying up to 220 eggs a year. Originally created by William Cook of Orpington, Kent, England, from the selection of mis-marked Blue Orpington Ducks; Cook was also the developer of the Orpington chicken. The breeds used in the development of the breed included Cayuga, Indian Runner, commercial Aylesbury and Rouen. It is proposed that Cook's intentions for the breed were to capitalize on the growing demand for the buff colour pattern. The Buff Orpington Duck was introduced to the public at the Dairy Show, the Agricultural Hall (q.v.), Islington, London in October 1897. It is considered a threatened breed by the ALBC. This breed was admitted to the British Poultry Standard in 1910 and the American Poultry Associations Standard of Perfection as the 'Buff Duck' in the Medium class in 1914. The Orpington duck is available in three colour varieties: Buff, Blond and Brown. The Buff Orpington is an unstable colour due to a blue dilution gene which means that from the offspring, all three colour variations will appear.

Itik-itik is a mimetic folk dance in the Philippines that mimics the movement of ducks. It originated in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur in the Philippines. Itik-itik was discovered in this town by National Artist for Dance Francisca Reyes-Aquino. Originating from a dance called Sibay and performed to the tune of Dejado, the story was told that an expert young dancer named Kanang at a barrio in Cantilan during a baptismal party had become so carried away with the rhythm that she began to improvise short, choppy steps similar to ducks and then, splash water on their backs. The dance immediately became popular in the province for stage performances and social dancing. Later, Mr. Antonino Arreza, a native of Cantilan and a grandfather of Prospero Pichay, Jr., was believed to be the one who composed the lyrics of Itik-itik. Itik is a Papuan language of Indonesia. It was not found in a 2005 language survey; it is not clear if this means it is no longer spoken or if the speakers have moved.

Alabio was a district in North Hulu Sungai, Kalimantan Selatan, Indonesia until administrative reforms after the Indonesian independence. The Alabio duck gets its name from this region.
