Alan Clark is a Canadian television executive who served as the head of CBC Sports from 1990 to 1999.
Clark was born in 1949 in London, Ontario and grew up in Ottawa. He graduated from Carleton University in 1974 with a degree in political science and history. [1]
Clark got his start at the CBC as a copy boy in Ottawa. In the 1970s he worked in the network's national newsroom in Toronto. He later joined CBC Radio, where he worked as a producer, executive producer, news special host, and executive assistant to the program director. In 1983 he was named head of CBC Radio sports, which he established as a separate department from news. [1]
In November 1989, Clark was hired by Arthur Smith to serve as deputy head of CBC Sports. In January 1990, Clark was named acting head of CBC Sports after Smith accepted the position of executive producer and vice-president of Dick Clark Productions. Soon after taking over, the network announced budget cuts. As a result, Clark had to terminate three employees and, due to overtime costs, eliminate coverage of Canadian Football League games on holiday weekends. In April 1990, Clark was appointed head of CBC Sports. [1]
During his tenure as head of CBC Sports, Clark successfully negotiated for the rights 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008 Olympic Games, the National Hockey League, and the Canadian Football League. He was also a driving force behind Hockey Day in Canada . [2]
On December 9, 1999, the CBC announced that Clark was stepping down as head of CBC sports to become the network's executive director of business development for sports. He was succeeded by his deputy Nancy Lee. [3] [4]
In 2010, Clark was elected to the CBC Sports Hall of Fame. [2]

Robert Michael Gainey is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1973 until 1989. After retiring from active play, he became a hockey coach and later an executive with the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars organization before returning to Montreal as general manager from 2003 to 2010. Currently, Gainey serves as a team consultant for the St. Louis Blues as well as a volunteer senior advisor for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. In 2017 Gainey was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history.

Harry James Sinden is a Canadian former ice hockey player, coach, and executive. He served as a coach, general manager, and team president for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), and was the coach of Team Canada during the 1972 Summit Series. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame in the builders category. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in its inaugural class of 1997.
George Mark Paul Stroumboulopoulos is a Canadian media personality. He is one of Canada's most popular broadcasters and best known as formerly being a VJ for the Canadian music television channel MuchMusic. He was also the host and co-executive producer of the CBC Television talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight from 2005 to 2014. From 2014 to 2016, Stroumboulopoulos worked for Rogers Media, anchoring Hockey Night in Canada and the NHL on Rogers. From 2009 to 2023, he was a radio host on CBC Music. Most recently, he joined Apple Music Radio as host of a Monday to Thursday live show.
Robert Alan Eagleson is a disbarred Canadian lawyer, hockey agent and promoter. Clients that he represented included superstars Bobby Orr and Darryl Sittler, and he was the first executive director of the NHL Players Association (NHLPA), which was initially lauded for improving the bargaining power of National Hockey League (NHL) players. He is also well known for providing the opportunity for professional players to compete in international hockey, by promoting the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union, and the Canada Cup. However, Eagleson was convicted of fraud and embezzlement and briefly imprisoned, after it was revealed that he had abused his position for many years by defrauding his clients and skimming money from tournaments. After his convictions, he was removed as a member of the Order of Canada and resigned from the Hockey Hall of Fame where he had been inducted in the builder category.

Percivale St-Helier LeSueur, known as "Peerless Percy", was a Canadian senior and professional ice hockey goaltender and later involved in the game as referee, coach, manager and owner. He was a member of the Smiths Falls Seniors for three years, with whom his performance in a 1906 Stanley Cup challenge series attracted the attention of his opponents, the Ottawa Silver Seven. Although his team lost the series, LeSueur excelled in goal, keeping the games close. Nine days after the defeat, he joined the Silver Seven and played in a challenge match against the Montreal Wanderers. He remained with Ottawa through the 1913–14 season where he served as team captain for three seasons, and assumed coaching duties in his final season with the team.
