The New Zealand national cricket team represents New Zealand in men's international cricket. Nicknamed the Black Caps,they played their first Test in 1930 against England in Christchurch,becoming the fifth country to play Test cricket. From 1930 New Zealand had to wait until 1956,more than 26 years,for its first Test victory,against the West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland. They played their first ODI in the 1972–73 season against Pakistan in Christchurch. New Zealand are the inaugural champions of WTC which they won in 2021 and they have also won ICC CT in 2000. They have played in the CWC final twice and the T20 WC final once.
Paul John Wiseman is a New Zealand former international cricketer. "Wiz",as he was nicknamed,was an off spinner who took nine wickets in an innings for Canterbury against Central Districts in Christchurch to record the second best figures in New Zealand domestic cricket bowler. Internationally,however,he was unable to forge a significant career due to the incumbency of first-choice spinner Daniel Vettori. Wiseman was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy.
Neil Alan Mallender is a former English cricketer. Born in Kirk Sandall,Yorkshire,Mallender was a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a right-hand lower order batsman who improved as his career progressed. He played first-class cricket in England for Northamptonshire and for Somerset (1987–1994). He also played for Otago,captaining the side in 1990–91 and 1991–92.
Lee Kenneth Germon is a sporting body administrator and former New Zealand cricketer,wicket-keeper and former captain. He played for the provinces of Canterbury and Otago and is the most successful Canterbury cricket captain of the modern era. He was made captain of the New Zealand Cricket team on his Test match debut. He holds the unofficial record for the most runs (70),from a single over in first-class cricket.
John Garry Bracewell is a former New Zealand cricketer who was most recently the coach of the Irish national team. He played 41 Test matches between 1980 and 1990,as well as 53 One Day Internationals. He was the second New Zealand cricketer to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in Test cricket.
Blair Robert Hartland is a former New Zealand cricketer who played nine Tests and 16 One Day Internationals for New Zealand. He was a specialist batsman,who usually opened the innings and bowled a total of three overs in his senior career. The son of former Canterbury cricketer,Ian Hartland,he was also a very talented hockey player.
Justin Thomas Caldwell Vaughan is a New Zealand cricket administrator and former cricketer who played six Test matches and 18 One Day Internationals between 1992 and 1997. He is a doctor of medicine by profession.
Warren Kenneth Lees is a New Zealand cricketer and coach. He played 21 Test matches and 31 One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1976 and 1983 as a wicket-keeper batsman. He was coach of the New Zealand national cricket team between 1990 and 1993.
Frederick Theodore Badcock was a New Zealand first-class and Test cricketer. Perhaps the best all-rounder in New Zealand in the inter-war period,he played seven Test matches for New Zealand between 1930 and 1933,including New Zealand's inaugural Test in 1930. He was the first players capped by New Zealand.
Todd Duncan Astle is a former New Zealand cricketer who played for the New Zealand national cricket team. Astle began his cricket career as an opening batsman,representing New Zealand in the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup,but over time playing first-class cricket for Canterbury,he morphed into a bowling all-rounder. He made his Test cricket debut for New Zealand in 2012 in Sri Lanka,but did not play another international match until 2015. He represented New Zealand in all three forms of the game,but was unable to keep a consistent place in the team in any format because of regular injury problems and competition with other spin bowlers. In January 2020,Astle retired from first-class cricket to focus on limited-overs cricket. In February 2023 he retired from all forms of professional cricket.
The Fiji national cricket team is the men's team that represents Fiji in international cricket. Fiji has been an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 1965,although the team's history goes back to the late 19th century.
The Otago cricket team,nicknamed the Volts since the 1997–98 season,are a New Zealand first-class cricket team which first played representative cricket in 1864. The team represents the Otago,Southland and North Otago regions of New Zealand's South Island. Their main governing board is the Otago Cricket Association which is one of six major associations that make up New Zealand Cricket.
Neil Trevor Broom is a New Zealand former international cricketer. He played domestic cricket for Otago and Canterbury and in England for Derbyshire County Cricket Club. After making his One Day International debut in 2009,Broom was recalled to the squad in 2017 following a successful domestic season,and made his Test debut. He played two Test matches,39 One Day Internationals and 11 Twenty20 Internationals for the national side.
Donald Owen Neely was a New Zealand cricket historian,administrator and player. He served as president of New Zealand Cricket and wrote or co-wrote over 30 books on New Zealand cricket.
Sean Robert Tracy is a former New Zealand cricketer who played for Auckland,Canterbury and Otago in a top-level career which lasted from the 1982–83 season until 1990–91.
An Australian team toured New Zealand and Fiji from February to April 1905 to play four first-class matches including two against New Zealand,which had not then attained Test status. Although it was the fifth Australian team to tour New Zealand,it was the first one to play matches on even terms,which therefore have first-class status. On previous tours all matches had been against teams of 15,18 or 22 players. As well as the two matches against New Zealand,the Australians played first-class matches against Canterbury and Otago. The other games were non-first-class against Auckland,Wellington and Fiji.
The Australia national cricket team toured New Zealand from February to April 1928 and played six first-class matches including two against the New Zealand national cricket team. This was before New Zealand began playing Test cricket.
Joseph Clement Lawton was an English-born New Zealand cricketer and coach. He played first-class cricket for Otago from 1891 to 1894 and played in New Zealand's first representative match. He was the first coach engaged by a New Zealand cricket association.
Glenn Dominic Phillips is a New Zealand cricketer,born in South Africa,who represents the New Zealand national cricket team and plays for Otago domestically. He made his international debut for New Zealand in February 2017. In December 2015,he was named in New Zealand's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In December 2017,his younger brother,Dale was named in New Zealand's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
