Alan Anthony Reynolds, (born in1942), is an American economist and author. [1] [2] Since 1972, his research and writings on economic theory, history and policy have had a substantial impact on the discussion and implementation of growth-oriented tax, trade, energy, regulatory and monetary policies in the U.S. and abroad. [3]
He is known for persuading Wall Street Journal editors Jude Wanniski and Robert Bartley to adopt the phrase “supply-side economics” in April 1976, and for his own writing about the importance of low marginal tax rates on added income to incentivize work effort, investment and entrepreneurial risk. [4]
Reynolds served as an economic advisor to Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign and as member of his Inflation Task Force. In January 1981, he was one of the first members of President Reagan’s OMB transition team with Larry Kudlow and Alan Greenspan. [5]
He has been a senior fellow at the Cato Institute since 2000 and with The American Institute for Economic Research since 2020. [6] [7]
