Alangar Jayagovind (Known as Dr. A. Jayagovind) is a jurist, former vice-chancellor, director, professor of international trade law at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, India., [1] [2] and visiting professor at National Law University, Delhi.

History

He was born on 10 October 1946 in Vitla village of Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka State of India.

He got his B.Sc. degree from Mysore University in 1966 and LL.B from Karnataka University, Dharwad in 1968. He passed Master of Law from University of Madras in 1970 and got Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 1976.

He joined the NLSIU in May 1988 as assistant professor of law (senior) and subsequently was appointed as associate professor in April 1992 and aS Professor Of Law in April 1997. He was director from 1 August 2003 (re-designated as vice-chancellor from 2004) till May 2009. He has also administered the Ministry of Commerce Chair on W.T.O. at NLSIU.

He was a UNESCO Fellow on International Economic Law, George Town Law Centre, Washington D.C., during 1971 and 1972.

He was research associate at the Indian Law Institute between 1974 and 1976 and research officer, Indian Institute of International Law, during 1976–1977, assistant professor at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, during 1977–1978. He was a senior lecturer in law and head, Department of Public Law and Jurisprudence, University of Sokoto, Nigeria, between 1980 and 1987 before joining the law school.

His areas of specialization include public international law, private international law, international organizations, international trade law and contracts. He has 26 publications to his credit. [2]

Presently he serves as a visiting faculty at National Law University, Delhi, [3] research guide at Symbiosis International University, Pune, [4] visiting professor at NLSIU, [5] visiting professor at Chanakya National Law University, Patna, [6] and as board member in various universities.[ where? ]

Family

He is married to Dr. Sharada Jayagovind, who was the former HOD and professor of English, Govt. College, Vijayanagar, Bangalore.

Mahendra Pal Singh, is a jurist and a scholar of constitutional law, administrative law and comparative law, and Professor Emeritus at University of Delhi. Presently, he serves as a Research Professor of Law, Distinguished Scholar in Public Law & Comparative Law, Director – Centre for Comparative Law and Chairman of the Law School Doctoral Committee at Jindal Global Law School, OP Jindal Global University. Internationally however, he is more famous amongst scholars of comparative law for his work, German Administrative Law in Common Law Perspective.

Riyaz Punjabi was a professor and vice chancellor at the University of Kashmir. He was granted the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian awards, in 2011. In 2008 he was granted an honorary professorship at the International University Vienna for his contribution in "Strengthening International Relations in the Sphere of Education". He also won the Amity Academic Excellence Award from Amity International Business School, in 2009, the Fazil Memorial Award in 2009, and the Adbi Markaz Kamraz award in 2010. He died on April 8, 2021.

Talat Ahmad is an Indian Earth scientist and professor at department of Geology, University of Delhi. He commenced his second stint as vice chancellor of University of Kashmir on 6 August 2018 after serving as vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, he resigned from the post a few months short of his full term. He was shortlisted by a committee constituted by the governor to shortlist a panel for the post. He had earlier taken over as vice-chancellor of University of Kashmir from Professor Riyaz Punjabi on 1 June 2011. Prior to this, he was teaching geology at the University of Delhi.

Ram Ramaswamy is an Indian scientist. He obtained his B.Sc. in chemistry (1972) from Loyola College, Chennai, then M.Sc. in chemistry from the IIT, Kanpur, and Ph.D. (1978) from Princeton University where he worked under the supervision of Herschel Rabitz. He then moved to California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, where he was between 1978 and 1980, working with Prof. Rudolph A. Marcus. He returned to India in 1980 and joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research as visiting fellow (1981) and fellow (1983). In 1986 he moved to the Jawaharlal Nehru University as one of the first members of the School of Physical Sciences, and has been at JNU since then. In addition to a professorship in the School of Physical Sciences, he is also on the faculty of the Centre for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics in the School for Computational and Integrative Sciences at JNU. He has to date supervised about 35 PhD students.

Rajpal Singh Sirohi is an Indian optics physicist, academic administrator, educator, and researcher in optical metrology. He is the former Director of IIT Delhi and Vice Chancellor of several universities. He is the Fellow of INAE, NASI, OSA, SPIE, OSI and ISoI. He has received numerous awards including Gabor Award of SPIE, Galileo Award of ICO. He is also the recipient of Padma Shri by Govt. of India. He is the author of about 430 papers and several books.

Sudhir Kumar Sopory is an Indian educationist, plant physiologist, scientist and former vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is known to be the first to purify a protein kinase C activity from plants and is credited with the identification of topoisomerase as a substrate of protein kinase C. He is an elected Fellow of several major Indian science academies and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and is a recipient of many honours, including the 1987 Shanti Swarup Bhatangar Prize, the highest Indian award in the science and technology categories. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2007, for his contributions to science and technology.

Valerian Rodrigues is an Indian political scientist. He is known for his influential work on Babasaheb Ambedkar, and for his formulations of themes in Modern Indian Political Thought. Rodrigues has made substantial contributions to the debate on the working of the Indian Parliament, constitutionalism in India, and agrarian politics in India. As a Professor at the Centre for Political Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, he was popular for his lectures on Indian Political Thought and Intellectual History, and critically reading the same through political concepts of modernity, secularism and nationalism. Before joining JNU, Rodrigues taught at the Department of Political Science at Mangalore University, Karnataka, India.

V. Vijayakumar is the Vice Chancellor of National Law Institute University, Bhopal. He was a professor in National Law School of India University. He is the former vice chancellor, Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai between 29 July 2010 and 28 July 2013. He is a distinguished visitor of various universities. He suggested many changes for improvement of Legal Education in India. His areas of specialization include Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Human Rights Law, Law of Elections, Refugee and Humanitarian Law. He held the UNHCR Chair on Refugee Law and has keen interest in IT administration and infrastructure. He is in the board of several National Law Schools steering various policy issues. He is the member of Academic Council of National Law University, Delhi As of 2023, he teaches an elective course on Election Law.

G. Gopakumar is an Indian leading political scientist and psephologist. He was former Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kerala,.

Kambadur Muralidhar or K. Muralidhar is an Indian biologist, known for his work in biochemistry, endocrinology and reproductive biology. He taught at Delhi University for over thirty years, and was Head of its Department of Zoology. Currently, he is Jawaharlal Nehru Chair Professor, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India. He is also highly regarded as a teacher and educator, and has contributed to biology education at both high school and college levels.

Yogesh Kumar Tyagi is an Indian academic. He is the 22nd Vice Chancellor of University of Delhi. He was former Dean of Faculty of legal studies, South Asian University and is credited with the establishment of an excellent department for International Law. He has published a famous work on UN Human Rights Committee(Cambridge University Press). He has published extensively in International journals.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sudhir Krishnaswamy</span> Indian academic, administrator and activist

Sudhir Krishnaswamy is an Indian academic, administrator, and civil society activist who is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and is a co-founder of the not-for-profit research trust Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR). Krishnaswamy took over as VC of NLSIU from R. Venkata Rao in September 2019. Krishnaswamy is the first alumnus of NLSIU to be appointed as the VC of the institution. On 6 May 2020, Facebook appointed him to its content oversight board. He was awarded the Infosys Prize 2022 in the Humanities category, for his insightful understanding of the Indian Constitution.
