Alejandro J. Lacayo Baca (August 9, 1951) was appointed by the President of the Republic of India as Honorary Consul General in Nicaragua on March 31, 2022, and accredited in Nicaragua on April 11 2022 by Presidential Decree 62-2022
Mr. Lacayo also is Honorary Consul of Portugal and Malaysia in Nicaragua, appointed by the Government of Malaysia and accredited in Nicaragua by Presidential decree No 20-2017. He was born in Nicaragua and attended Georgetown University from 1969-1973. His father Alejandro Lacayo Montealegre founded the Monte Rosa Sugar Mill in Nicaragua. Mr. Lacayo is also involved in Sugar Cane growing farms, and also does Corporate Consultancy in the field of sales, distribution and logistics for International Corporations. Mr. Lacayo played golf for the Nicaraguan National Amateur Seniors Team during 2003 to 2013 competing annually in Central America. [1] [2] [3]
General elections were held in Nicaragua on 5 November 2006. The country's voters went to the polls to elect a new President of the Republic and 90 members of the National Assembly, all of whom will serve five-year terms. Daniel Ortega (FSLN) won the race with 37.99% of the vote, Eduardo Montealegre (ALN) trailing with 28.30%, José Rizo (PLC) with 27.1%, Edmundo Jarquín (MRS) with 6.29%, and Edén Pastora (AC) with just 0.29%.

She was sworn in as vice president of Nicaragua on 10 January 2017. In August 2021, she was made subject to personal sanctions by the European Union, over alleged human rights violations.

Lacayo resides in Nicaragua with her family.
Blanca Stella Aráuz Pineda is the first National Heroine of Nicaragua. She was noted as a telegraphist who assisted the guerrilla forces during the United States occupation of Nicaragua and who negotiated with President Juan Bautista Sacasa to gain amnesty for the rebels and negotiate peace at the end of the conflict.
National Heroines and Heroes of Nicaragua are promulgated by legal decree of the Nicaraguan Legislature. Those who receive the title are people who were instrumental in helping the country gain its independence, or who worked to maintain the sovereignty and national self-determination of the country. Initially called National Heroes of Nicaragua, in 2014 legislation was passed via Law No. 859 to change the title to "National Heroines and Heroes of Nicaragua". The amended law provides that to be honored with the title, the person nominated must be deceased, and the nomination must be accompanied by certifications, recognition, or guarantees created by public or private institutions, such as trade unions, artistic associations, sporting organizations, or educational institutions, to confirm their service to the country and exemplary or heroic actions.
Martha Cecilia Ruíz is a Nicaraguan poet, writer, journalist, and Social activist. She directs the El País Azul radio talk show, sits on the board of directors of Nicaraguan Association of Writers (ANIDE) as a member (2015–2018), is a consultant in Communication and Human Rights, and has founded both Three Times Three and the Forum of Cultural Journalists of Nicaragua (FPCN). Ruiz's writings have been included in numerous anthologies and she has published a single narrative book as of November 2017.
The 2018–2020 Nicaraguan protests began on 18 April 2018 following a move by the government of Daniel Ortega to reform social security. Following the deaths of protesters, demonstrations intensified and grew into a large anti-Ortega movement seeking his removal from office.
Francisco Obadiah Campbell Hooker is the Nicaraguan Ambassador to the United States. He assumed the post in 2010; prior to that he served as deputy to the Central American Parliament. In March 2022, Campbell was also appointed Nicaraguan ambassador to the Organization of American States; he replaced ambassador Arturo McFields after McFields denounced the administration of President Daniel Ortega as a "dictatorship" following the widespread arrests and prosecution of aspiring 2021 presidential candidates and other opposition figures.
