Aleksandar Mitsev (born 17 May 1935) is a Bulgarian boxer. He competed in the men's light welterweight event at the 1960 Summer Olympics. [1]

Boxing combat sport

Boxing is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves, throw punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time in a boxing ring.

The men's light welterweight event was part of the boxing programme at the 1960 Summer Olympics. The weight class allowed boxers of up to 63.5 kilograms to compete. The competition was held from 25 August to 5 September 1960. 34 boxers from 34 nations competed.

The city of Rome had previously been awarded the administration of the 1908 Summer Olympics, but following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, Rome had no choice but to decline and pass the honour to London.

Aleksandar Khristov is a retired boxer from Bulgaria, who became world champion and represented his native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. There he won the silver medal in the bantamweight division. He also won three medals in the European Amateur Boxing Championships, including gold at the 1987 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Turin, Italy.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was again a member of Montenegro's team, where they lost to Croatia in the semi-final, and then lost to Serbia again in the bronze medal match, this time 11-12.
