Alessio Corti (born 1965) [1] is a Professor of Mathematics at Imperial College London working in Algebraic Geometry.
Corti studied at the University of Pisa and Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, where he gained a diploma (Laurea) in 1987. He obtained his PhD in 1992 at the University of Utah under the supervision of János Kollár. [2]
As a post-doctoral researcher, he was at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, California. From 1993 to 1996 he was the Dickson Instructor at the University of Chicago and in 1996 became lecturer, later reader, of mathematics at the University of Cambridge. Since 2005 he has been a professor at Imperial College London. [3] In 2002, he was awarded the London Mathematical Society's Whitehead Prize. [4]
He is the originator of a project to create a periodic table of shapes.[ citation needed ]
He is married and has a daughter, Beatrice (born 17 September 1992). [5]
The University of Pisa is a public research university in Pisa, Italy. Founded in 1343, it is one of the oldest universities in Europe. Together with Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, it is part of the Pisa University System.
The Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa is a public university institution in Pisa and Florence, Tuscany, Italy, currently attended by about 600 undergraduate and postgraduate (PhD) students. Together with the University of Pisa and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, it is part of the Pisa University System.
Ennio De Giorgi was an Italian mathematician who worked on partial differential equations and the foundations of mathematics.
The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies is a special-statute, highly selective public research university located in Pisa, Italy. Together with the University of Pisa and Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, it is part of the Pisa University System.
The Pisa University System is a network of higher education institutions in Pisa, Italy. The following three schools and universities belong to the system:
Guido Stampacchia was an Italian mathematician, known for his work on the theory of variational inequalities, the calculus of variation and the theory of elliptic partial differential equations.
Gian Biagio Conte is an Italian classicist and professor of Latin Literature at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa.
Luigi Ambrosio is a professor at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy. His main fields of research are the calculus of variations and geometric measure theory.
Christopher Derek Hacon is a mathematician with British, Italian and US nationalities. He is currently distinguished professor of mathematics at the University of Utah where he holds a Presidential Endowed Chair. His research interests include algebraic geometry.
Aldo Andreotti was an Italian mathematician who worked on algebraic geometry, on the theory of functions of several complex variables and on partial differential operators. Notably he proved the Andreotti–Frankel theorem, the Andreotti–Grauert theorem, the Andreotti–Vesentini theorem and introduced, jointly with François Norguet, the Andreotti–Norguet integral representation for functions of several complex variables.
Corrado de Concini is an Italian mathematician and professor at the Sapienza University of Rome. He studies algebraic geometry, quantum groups, invariant theory, and mathematical physics.
Alessio Figalli is an Italian mathematician working primarily on the calculus of variations and partial differential equations.
Sergio Campanato was an Italian mathematician who studied the theory of regularity for elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations.
Emilio Baiada was an Italian mathematician.
Lars Håkan Eliasson is a Swedish mathematician.
Umberto Zannier is an Italian mathematician, specializing in number theory and Diophantine geometry.
Pietro Corvaja is an Italian mathematician working in Diophantine geometry. He is a professor of geometry at the University of Udine.
Maria Colombo is an Italian mathematician specializing in mathematical analysis. She is a professor at the EPFL in Switzerland, where she holds the chair for mathematical analysis, calculus of variations and partial differential equations.
Michele Benzi is an Italian mathematician who works as a full professor in the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. He is known for his contributions to numerical linear algebra and its applications, especially to the solution of sparse linear systems and the study of preconditioners.
Angelo Vistoli is an Italian mathematician working on algebraic geometry.
