Alexander Povernov (born 17 February 1978) is a German amateur boxer best known to win Bronze at the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships at Heavyweights with 201 lb/91 kg limit.

The men's 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Mianyang, China, from November 13 to November 20. The competition was organised by the world's governing body for amateur boxing AIBA.

Career

The hard punching Povernov could win the German Championships at heavyweights with 201 lb/91 kg limit in 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2006. One of his main opponents was Stefan Köber, brother of Sebastian Köber, who beat him on points in 2003 but whom he KOd 2004.

Sebastian Köber is a German boxer, who won the Heavyweight bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Three years later, at the 2003 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Bangkok, he once again finished in third place.

At the European Championships 2004 he lost in the first round against Kubrat Pulev.

Kubrat Venkov Pulev is a Bulgarian professional boxer. He held the European heavyweight title twice between 2012 and 2016, and has challenged once for the unified world heavyweight title in 2014. As an amateur he won multiple medals at international tournaments, including gold at the 2008 European Championships and bronze at the 2005 World Championships, all in the super-heavyweight division.

At the World Championships 2005 he lost his semi final controversially to eventual winner Aleksandr Alekseyev and won bronze.

At the 2006 European Amateur Boxing Championships he beat Clemente Russo 30:21 but lost to Roman Romanchuk and again won bronze.

The Men's 2006 European Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from July 13 to July 23. The 36th edition of this bi-annual competition was organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, EABA.

He currently boxes for the Italia Thunder team in the World Series of Boxing league. He also signed up for the new AIBA professional league, the APB, which launched in autumn 2013.

Roman Romanovich Romanchuk was a Ukrainian and Russian amateur boxer. He won silver at super heavyweight during the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships and helped the Russian team win the 2005 Boxing World Cup. He also had success as an amateur kickboxer.

At the World Championships 2007 he beat Polish Deontay Wilder conqueror Krzysztof Zimnoch 18:10 but exited early against Italian surprise winner Clemente Russo 5:17 . He failed to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.

Deontay Leshun Wilder is an American professional boxer. He has held the WBC heavyweight title since 2015, and in doing so became the first American world heavyweight champion in nine years, which was the longest period of time in boxing history without an American heavyweight champion. As an amateur he won a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 2008 Olympics. This led to his nickname of "The Bronze Bomber", which Wilder coined after Joe Louis, who was known by the nickname of "The Brown Bomber".

Krzysztof Zimnoch is a Polish professional heavyweight boxer affiliated to the Hetman Białystok Boxing Club. He holds an amateur win over current WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
