Alexandria Sporting Club, also commonly known as Sporting Alexandria and Sporting among the locals, is an Egyptian sports club based in Alexandria, Egypt. Founded in 1890, the club is one of the oldest clubs in Egypt and Africa. The club was taken over by the Egyptian government and converted to a national club in 1952. The club is best known for their handball and basketball team.

Contents

The club's basketball team is a three-time Egyptian Basketball Premier League champion, having won the 2017–18 season title. [1]

Sporting's women's team won the FIBA Africa Women's Clubs Champions Cup in 2022, becoming the first Egyptian club to win the competition. [2] In 2023, Sporting won its second consecutive title.

The 2022 FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup was the 26th season of the FIBA Africa Women's Clubs Champions Cup, the top tier basketball league for women's teams in Africa. The tournament began on December 9 and ended on December 17, 2022, and was entirely hosted in the Eduardo Mondlane University Gym in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. It is the third time Maputo hosts the league after 2016 and 2018. The league returned after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
