Alexis Nolent (a.k.a. Matz) is a French writer. He writes scripts for video games and has also written a novel and, under the pen name Matz, a number of comics.
Nolent was born in Rouen, France, and grew up in the Caribbean, before moving to Paris. [1]
His graphic novel Du Plomb Dans La Tete, AKA Headshot , was adapted into the 2012 film Bullet to the Head . [2] He has written The Killer (Le Tueur) and Cyclops (Cyclopes) both of which have been optioned for films, also by producer Alexandra Milchan, the former at Paramount with director David Fincher [3] and the latter at Warner Brothers by James Mangold. [4] The Killer is his first to be published in English and is published by Archaia Studios Press, [5] who are dividing each of volumes into two parts and releasing in American comic book format bi-monthly. The first four issues were collected as a hardcover volume, which won IGN's Best Indy Book of 2007 Award, [6] Newsarama's Best of '07 gave it the "Best Comic You Didn't Read This Year" award [7] and Entertainment Weekly named it #2 in a list of Best comics of 2007. Other work includes Headshot (Du plomb dans la tête) with Colin Wilson, Shandy with Dominique Bertail and an upcoming adaptation of Jim Thompson's novel Savage Night with artist Miles Hyman. [9] [10]
The Killer was optioned for a 2023 feature film adaptation, starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton. [11]

The Prix Saint-Michel is a series of comic awards presented by the city of Brussels, with a focus on Franco-Belgian comics. They were first awarded in 1971, and although often said to be the oldest European comics awards, they are actually the second oldest comics award in Europe still presented, behind the Adamson Awards. Their history is quite erratic though, with a long pause between 1986 and 2002.
The René Goscinny award, named after the writer of Asterix and Lucky Luke, is awarded to comic writers at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. It was first awarded in 1988 and 1992, every year between 1995 and 2008, and again since 2017. The award is given in order to encourage young comic writers, those whose comic careers have only begun to flourish. The awardee is chosen by a jury mostly composed of comics specialists: authors, journalists, and Angoulême festival organizers. The winner receives 5000 euro.

Snowpiercer is a four-volume post-apocalyptic, climate fiction, graphic novel written by Jacques Lob and illustrated by Jean-Marc Rochette. The first volume was serialized in 1982 and published by Casterman under the title Le Transperceneige and later retitled The Escape. The series was continued in two volumes by writer Benjamin Legrand, replacing Jacques Lob, with The Explorers published in 1999 and The Crossing in 2000. A fourth volume, Terminus, was written by Olivier Bocquet and published in 2015, as a conclusion to the series.
