Aliaa Saleh (born 4 August 2004) is an Egyptian rhythmic gymnast. [1] She is a multiple time African champion.

Career

Aliaa debuted internationally as a junior at the 2018 African Championships in Cairo. She won medals in every event: gold in teams and with hoop and clubs, silver in the all-around and with ball, and a bronze with ribbon. [2]

In 2019 she was selected for the inaugural junior World Championships in Moscow. Egypt was 23rd in the team competition, and Saleh finished 16th with ball and 46th with clubs. [3]

As a senior, at the 2020 African Championships in Sharm el-Sheikh, she won gold in teams and silver with ball. [4]

In 2022 she took part in the World Cup in Baku, taking 35th place in the All-Around, 37th with hoop, 25th with ball, 35th with clubs, 39th with ribbon. [5] In June she competed at the African Championships in Cairo, where she won gold in teams, in the all-around, and with ball and ribbon, and in addition to two silver medals with hoop and clubs. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] In September, she was selected for the World Championships in Sofia. She was 45th in the All-Around, 42nd with hoop, 37th with ball, 56th with clubs and 58th with ribbon. She started the 2023 season by taking part in the World Cup in Sofia, finishing 34th in the all-around, 25th with hoop, 33rd with ball, 28th with clubs and 46th with ribbon. [13] At the 2023 African Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Moka, she won gold in teams and with ball, and silver in the all-around and with hoop. [14] [15] [16] [17] She once again represented Egypt at the 2023 World Championships and finished in 52nd place. [18]

Saleh won the all-around at the 2024 African Championships. [19] Her placement gave her an individual berth to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics. [20] In the event finals, she won two additional gold medals (hoop and ball), a silver (ribbon), and a bronze (clubs). [21] [22] [23] [24]

She is the third Israeli athlete and first Israeli woman to win an Olympic gold medal in any sport, and the first Israeli rhythmic gymnast to win an Olympic medal. She became the first rhythmic gymnast from outside a post-Soviet republic to win a gold medal at an Olympics where former Soviet states participated. Ashram announced her retirement from competitive gymnastics at a press conference in Tel Aviv on 4 April 2022.

Katrin Yankova Taseva is a retired Bulgarian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2017 European Silver medalist with Ribbon, 2019 Grand-Prix Final All-around bronze medalist, the 2019 World Cup series All-around and Ball winner and the double World Cup series Ribbon winner. Taseva had won multiple medals at the European Games and is also the 2018 Bulgarian National Champion and a four-time Bulgarian National All-around silver medalist.

Evita Griskenas is an American individual rhythmic gymnast. She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing 12th in the qualification round for the individual all-around. She was the most decorated athlete at the 2019 Pan American Games with four gold medals and one bronze medal, and she won five medals at the 2023 Pan American Games. She swept the gold medals at the 2017 Pan American Championships and is also the 2022 Pan American all-around champion. At the 2023 Portimao World Challenge Cup, she became the first American to win an all-around silver medal on the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series. She is the 2022 national all-around champion, a four-time national all-around silver medalist, and the 2015 junior national all-around champion.
