Alice Jones is an American international swimmer who swam for the Cincinnati Marlins under Hall of Fame Coach Paul Bergen.^[1]

Jones was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Mr. and Mrs. Homer M. Jones.^[2] At the 1970 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Outdoor Swimming Championships, Jones won two gold medals, setting world records in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly.^[3]^[4] She was named World Swimmer of the Year in 1970 by Swimming World .^[3]

The next summer, at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, from 30 July to 13 August 1971,^[5] she won a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly, with a time of 2:28.3.^[3]

On June 15, 1974, she married Robert Louis Smithers of Sarasota in Cincinnati.^[2]

Jones attended the University of Cincinnati.^[4]

At the 1972 Olympics she won a silver medal in the 100-meter backstroke, and a bronze medal in the 100-meter butterfly. In 1995, following her both parents, she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Burwell Otis Jones was a physician specializing in dermatology, and a former American competition swimmer. He was an All-American for the University of Michigan, and represented the U.S. in the 1952 Olympics, later receiving a gold medal when Olympic rules changed allowing him to receive his medal for winning the preliminary in the 4x200 freestyle relay, though not competing in the final heat that won the event. Steven Garrett Gregg was an American competition swimmer. He won silver medals in the 200 m butterfly event at the 1976 Olympics, 1975 Pan American Games, and 1973 and 1978 world championships. After graduating from North Carolina State University, he defended a PhD in exercise biochemistry and physiology at University of California, Berkeley, and eventually settled in the Chicago area with his family.

Kimberly Ann Linehan is an American former competition swimmer for the University of Texas, a world champion, and a former world record-holder in the 400 and 1500-meter freestyle events. For a time in the 1970's she was the top distance freestyler in the world.

Paul Bergen is an Olympic swimming coach from the United States. He has coached in the USA and Canada, winning coach of the year honors in both countries in different years. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Coach in 1988. He has coached swimmers to 21 World, 24 USA and 13 Canadian records.

Gregory "Greg" Jagenburg is an American former competition swimmer and a World Aquatics Champion in butterfly who swam for Long Beach State and the University of Arizona under Hall of Fame Coach Dick Jochums. In August 1975, Jagenburg swam a 2:00.73 in the 200-meter butterfly, just .03 seconds behind Mark Spitz's standing world record in the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
