Alice Maio Mackay (born August 4, 2004) is an Australian filmmaker best known for writing and directing the 2023 queer horror films T Blockers and Satranic Panic. [1]

Maio Mackay was born in Adelaide. [2]

Career

Since 2017, Maio Mackay has produced work under her own company, One Manner Productions. Many of her works are crowdfunded. [3] After directing a string of short films, Maio Mackay's debut feature, So Vam, was released in 2021, followed by Bad Girl Boogey the next year. Her subsequent two features, T Blockers and Satranic Panic, premiered in 2023. [4]

Maio Mackay's fifth feature film was announced in May 2023. [5] The title, Carnage for Christmas, was revealed that August. [6]

Artistry

Maio Mackay cites Gregg Araki as a major influence on her filmmaking and incorporates elements of camp into her work. [7] [1]

Personal life

Maio Mackay is a transgender woman. [7] She resides in Sydney. [2]

T Blockers is a 2023 Australian horror film directed by Alice Maio Mackay. The film centres on a young transgender woman in an Australian small town who becomes aware of parasites that are taking over the local men, and forms a vigilante group with her friends to get the problem under control.

Cassie Workman is an Australian comedian from Perth, Western Australia. In 2009, she was the winner of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Raw Comedy competition and was sent to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She then performed a number of successful shows at festivals around Australia during the early to mid-2010s, including Ave Loretta, War, We Have Fun Don't We and Nothing You Do Means Anything. She has also written for Shaun Micallef's Mad as Hell and Aaron Chen Tonight.
