Travelgate was one of the first major political corruption scandals in post-apartheid South Africa. It implicated over 30 Members of Parliament (MPs) as accomplices and beneficiaries in a large-scale fraud scheme, under which Parliament unknowingly recompensed MPs and private travel agencies for millions of rands in fictitious travel expenses. The Sunday Times broke the story in July 2004.
Ndleleni Moses Duma was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until his death in 2018. He also served in the National Assembly between 2009 and 2014. He was a Member of the North West Executive Council from 2004 to 2009 during the premiership of Edna Molewa; during the same period, he was convicted on theft charges in connection with his involvement in the Travelgate scandal during an earlier period of service in the national Parliament.

During that time he served as Chief Whip of the Majority Party from October 2008 to April 2009 and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans from June 2009 to October 2010.

She is a former member of the ANC's Provincial Executive Committee in the North West.
Mbulelo Terence Goniwe is a South African politician, businessman and former anti-apartheid activist who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2006. He was Chief Whip of the Majority Party from June 2004 until December 2006, when he was expelled from the ANC and therefore from the National Assembly.
Increase Zandisile "John" Ncinane was a South African politician and sports administrator from the Eastern Cape. He represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004.
Nozabelo Ruth Bhengu, formerly known as Ruth Ntshulana-Bhengu, is a South African politician and businesswoman who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly until 2019. She is also a former president of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) and was a member of the ANC's National Executive Committee from 2007 to 2022.
SallyBelvia Moiloa-Nqodi is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2004. She was elected in 1999 and served the Eastern Cape constituency. Though she was not initially re-elected in 2004, she returned to her seat from October 2008 to May 2009, filling the casual vacancy that arose after Essop Pahad resigned. In 2006, she was questioned during a liquidation inquiry arising from the Travelgate scandal.
