Alison Blackburne is a British civil servant who has worked as principle private secretary to Jack Straw and who has represented the United Kingdom to South Sudan,Uganda,Pakistan,the European Union and the United Nations.
Blackburne joined the Foreign &Commonwealth Office in 1987. [1] In 2007,she was the principle private secretary to Jack Straw. [2]
She has worked as the British Ambassador to South Sudan from April 2017 to May 2019 [3] and the British High Commissioner to Uganda from August 2012 to November 2016. [4] In Uganda Blackburne lived at a property on Keyadona Road,Nakasero,Kampala that featured in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland and hosted Dolar Popat on his 2016 visit. [5]
As of 2021, [6] Blackburne was the Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan. [1] In Pakistan she attended an UK-government organised event on press freedom in Pakistan and spoke of the need to support women journalists. [6]
Blackburne also served with the UK Permanent Representative to the EU and to the United Nations. [1]
