Alison Frances Josephine Levitt, Baroness Levitt, KC , is a British barrister and life peer.
She was called to the Bar by Inner Temple in 1988 and became a KC in 2008. Levitt practised as a criminal barrister in London and from 2009 to 2014 and was the Principal Legal Advisor to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sir Keir Starmer. In 2009, she became a Master of the Bench of the Inner Temple. From 2014 to 2018 she was a Partner and head of the White Collar Crime group at Mishcon de Reya. She was a Recorder of the Crown Court from 2007 to 2021 and a Circuit Judge from 2021 to 2024, from which she resigned before she was appointed to the House of Lords. [1]
She was nominated for a life peerage in December 2024 by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for the Labour Party and was created as Baroness Levitt, of Beachamwell Warren in the County of Norfolk on 22 January 2025. [1] [2]
She is married to Alex Carlile, Baron Carlile of Berriew and has two daughters, a stepson, and two stepdaughters.
