Alistair MacDougall is an Australian actor and photographer. He began his career taking the role of Ryan Lee in the Australian soap opera Home and Away . He then moved to the United States and appeared as Adam Cartwright Jr. in Bonanza: The Return and Ty Cooper in High Sierra Search and Rescue, which were both NBC productions. In later years, MacDougall became a professional photographer and started his own businesses.

Career

MacDougall began his career working as a model and his significant roles were filming adverts for Levi Strauss & Co. He later stated that this work was only to support himself financially and that acting was his "love". [1] His debut acting role came in 1991, with MacDougall portraying the role of Ryan Lee in the Australian soap opera, Home and Away . [1] The character was portrayed as a villain and gained MacDougall notoriety in Australia. In a November 1992 interview featured in Inside Soap , MacDougall claimed he became fearful making public outings because of his character's villainy. [1]

MacDougall then began his pursuing his acting career in the United States. He soon appeared in the 1993 episode of Cobra , titled "Something in the Air". [2] He also took the role of Adam Cartwright Jr. in the made for television film Bonanza: The Return , which aired on NBC on 28 November 1993. [3] [4] His role in the show is an Australian cowboy. [4] An American series, MacDougall kept his Australian accent and this was written into the character's backstory. [5] His next role was a criminal who takes a woman hostage in Renegade . [6]

In 1995, MacDougall took the regular role of Ty Cooper, in another NBC television series titled High Sierra Search and Rescue. Ty's role in the show was a deputy sheriff. [7] [8] NBC were forced to recast MacDougall's role of Adam in the Bonanza sequel Bonanza: Under Attack , with Jeff Phillips assuming the part. The network had not considered a schedule clash when they signed MacDougall to appear in High Sierra Search and Rescue. [9] In 1996, MacDougall appeared as Eric Shay in the Pacific Blue episode titled "Over the Edge". [10]

MacDougall eventually gave up trying to become successful in Hollywood and returned to Australia. [11] MacDougall later graduated from the University of New South Wales with a design degree focusing on photography. [12] He began working as a photographer based in Sydney, New South Wales. [13] He runs two photography companies, Photo Organic dealing with wild life photography and another, called MacDougall Photography ran with his wife Valerie. [12] [14]

Days of Our Lives is an American television daytime soap opera broadcast on NBC. It is one of the longest-running scripted television programs in the world, airing nearly every weekday since November 8, 1965. A co-production of Corday Productions and Sony Pictures Television, the series was created by husband-and-wife team Ted Corday and Betty Corday. During Days of Our Lives' early years, Irna Phillips served as a story editor for the program and many of the show's earliest storylines were written by William J. Geoff Paine is an Australian television and theatre actor from Melbourne. After graduating from drama school Paine secured a role on the soap opera Neighbours, playing the role of doctor Clive Gibbons. He remained in the role for one year before leaving to pursue other projects. He returned to the role briefly in 1989, with the opportunity to appear in a spin-off series based on the character, but no television network would produce the show. Paine continued his career with roles in A Country Practice and the comedy sketch show The Comedy Company. He also concentrated on his stage career gaining roles in productions that toured Australia, including various projects at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

David MacDougall American anthropologist

David MacDougall is an American-Australian visual anthropologist, academic, and documentary filmmaker, who is known for his ethnographic film work in Africa, Australia, Europe and India. For much of his career he co-produced and co-directed films with his wife, fellow filmmaker Judith MacDougall. In 1972, his first film, To Live with Herds was awarded the Grand Prix "Venezia Genti" at the Venice Film Festival. He has lived in Australia since 1975, and is currently a professor in the Research School of Humanities & the Arts at Australian National University.
