Aliyu Idris Funtua

Dr Aliyu Idris Funtua is a Nigerian academic and the Provost of Federal College of Education, Katsina. He became the 13th Provost of the College on August 19, 2016, after President Muhammadu Buhari approved his appointment. [1] [2] Prior to this appointment, he was the Deputy as well as the Acting Provost of the college. He holds a PhD in Hausa Language from Bayero University, Kano in 2016. [3] [ citation needed ]

Funtua hails from Funtua Local Government in Katsina State. He is conferred a traditional title of Wakilin Malaman Katsina "Representative of Katsina State Scholars" by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman. [4]

Born in Dandume local government in 1962, Dr. Funtua attended Aya Primary School in Funtua and Government Secondary School in Malumfashi local government. He went to Federal Advanced Teachers' College (now Federal College of Education, Katsina) where he got NCE in 1984. He obtained his first, second and third degrees from Bayero University Kano. [4]

In 1985, Funtua started working as a classroom teacher under defunct Kaduna State. He became a lecturer in Federal College of Education, Katsina in 1997 and he held several positions. [4]

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo was established on 5 October 1977 as Federal Advanced Teacher's college (Special). The institution, according to a UNDP/UNESCO 1996 report (NIR/87/008) "... Has the best qualified Staff in Special Education not only in Nigeria but in West, North, East and Central Africa." The College is the only one of its kind in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. It has the largest conglomeration of disabled students that could be found in any Higher Institution in Nigeria and the largest concentration of specialized facilities for teaching and training of teachers of the Handicapped in Nigeria. During its 40th anniversary celebrations, the College gave special recognition award to former President Olusegun obasanjo whose military administration brought about the upgrading of the Institution from the then Federal Advanced Teachers College to a College of Education with the mandate to award the National Certificate of Education in 1977.

He also introduced several constructions in all the five faculties of the university. He sponsored academic and non-teaching staff to pursue higher degrees in many universities at home and abroad thereby boosting the workforce in the university.
