The All India Poetry Prize is awarded through an open competition referred to as the All India Poetry Competition or the National Poetry Competition. [1] The selection process involves a jury that anonymously evaluates submissions. [2]
The jury consists of poets. Past jury members include Peter Forbes, Lawrence Sail, Ruth Padel, Sitakant Mahapatra, J. P. Das, Keshav Malik, Anna Sujatha Mathai, and Nissim Ezekiel. [3]
From the prize's inception in 1988 until 2001, the British Council sponsored the awards. Since 2013, they have been co-sponsored by the Government of India under the Ministry of Human Resources. Awards were not presented between 2001 and 2013. [1]
