Alo Libang (born 1 March 1964) is an Indian politician from the state of Arunachal Pradesh. [1] He is the current Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development & Tribal Affairs of Arunachal Pradesh. [2]

Alo Libang was elected uncontested as a candidate from 34 Tuting-Yingkiong constituency seat in the 2014 Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election,as an Indian National Congress (INC) candidate [1] [2] [3] and in 2019 Assembly election by securing 5800 votes he was again elected as Member of Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh from the same Constituency by defeating Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Gegong Apang by a margin of 1609 votes. [4]
Alo Libang was born and brought up in a small village called Simong, [5] 10 kilometres away from Yingkiong Town,Upper Siang,Arunachal Pradesh. [6] He was well versed in public speaking from his childhood. He completed his graduation in Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Jawaharlal Nehru College,Pasighat under Rajiv Gandhi University erstwhile Arunachal University in Itanagar,Arunachal Pradesh. [7]
He made his foray into politics during the year 2009 and was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh,as a candidate from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). [8] He later joined Indian National Congress Party in 2012. [9] He holds many important portfolios in Arunachal cabinet. He is currently serving as Minister,Health &Family Welfare,Social Welfare,Women &Child Development,Social Justice,Empowerment &Tribal Affairs. In September 2016,he was sworn in as the Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly [10] and in Assembly election of 2019 he won seat from 34 Tuting-Yingkiong (ST) constituency as Member of Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate. [11]
He launched the HRMIS (Human Resources Management Information System) state level flagship programme under the National Health Mission (NHM) to ensure timely and transparent dispensation of Health services across all districts [12] as first of its kind in the State and launched Mission 'Pratiraksha" to ensure 100 percent immunisation coverage of children in the State to curb the spread of preventable diseases. The programme achieved 67 percent immunisation [13] and he introduced ' Sarkaar Apke Dwaar' (Government at your Doorstep) initiative in remote areas of Tuting,Upper Siang making accessible basic government services to local population [14] which are some of his major contributions in the field of public services. In April 2020,he inaugurated first COVID-19 Testing Lab at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science (TRIHMS) Itanagar,which is the first ever Covid-19 Testing Facility in the State and third in Northeast India after Assam and Mizoram. [15] The Health Minister was reported Covid-19 positive along with six other Legislators from the State of Arunachal Pradesh in mid September 2020. [16]
Alo Libang contested election for 2019 and won seat in the Arunachal Legislative Assembly as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from 34 Tuting-Yingkiong constituency [17] as the 'Chowkidar' (watchman) campaign slogan is adopted and espoused by current Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi,now a catchphrase in vogue,later many including Libang also adopted an expression "Main bhi Chowkidaar " (roughly translating to "me too watchman") to express solidarity with the party vision of BJP. [18] He secured a total of 5800 votes and defeated the Janta Dal (Secular) candidate Gegong Apang and Tsepa Wanchuk Khampa by a margin of 1609 and 5472 votes respectively for the 34 Tuing-Yingkiong Constituency in 2019 Assembly election. [19]
Arunachal Congress (AC) was a regional political party in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Arunachal Congress (Mithi),was a break-away group of Arunachal Congress. AC(M) was formed in 1998 when Mukut Mithi led a revolt against the AC leader Gegong Apang. AC(M) gathered 40 (out of 60) Members of the Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh and one of the AC members of the Lok Sabha,Wangcha Rajkumar. AC(M) formed a new state government,with Mithi as Chief Minister. In 1999 AC(M) merged with Indian National Congress. It remained in power until 2003.
Peoples Party of Arunachal is a regional political party in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It was founded in September 1977 by Bakin Pertin,Oken Lego and L. Wanglat as president,Vice President and General Secretary of the party. Tomo Riba resigned from PK Thungon government of Congress Party and joined PPA as Vice President of the Party. Currently,Kamen Ringu is the chairman of the party. They were in power in Arunachal until all of their MLAs defected back to Indian National Congress.
Gegong Apang is an Indian politician from Arunachal Pradesh. He served as the 3rd Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh from 18 January 1980 to 19 January 1999 and again from August 2003 to April 2007. He is a member of the Janata Dal (Secular) and was a member of the Indian National Congress before 2016. Apang is the Arunachal Pradesh's longest serving Chief Minister and also the fourth longest serving Chief Minister of an Indian state after Pawan Kumar Chamling of Sikkim,Jyoti Basu of West Bengal and Naveen Patnaik of Odisha.
Yingkiong is a town in and the administrative headquarters of Upper Siang district in the Northeast Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is located 250 kilometres (160 mi) north of Itanagar,the capital of the state,and 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) east of the River Siang. According to the 2011 Census,the town has a total population of 8,573.

Following the 25 July 2003 Congress split,Gegong Apang formed the state government with the help of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Congress had an alliance with its splinter group Arunachal Congress. Congress candidate and former Arunachal Congress leader Wangcha Rajkumar contested Arunachal East and AC candidate Kamen Ringu contested Arunachal West. Nationalist Trinamool Congress had a candidate in Arunachal West,competing against BJP. BJP won both seats with comfortable margins.
The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election of 2009 took place in October 2009,concurrently with the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The elections were held in the state for all 60 Assembly seats on 2009-10-13. The results were declared on 2009-10-22. Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu's Indian National Congress party came back to power in the state with an increased majority,winning 42 seats in the 60 seat Assembly.

Omak Apang is an Indian politician from Arunachal Pradesh. He was born to parents of Adi descent. He is the son of politician Gegong Apang,who served as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh between 1980 and 1999 and again between 2003 and 2007. He served as the minister of state for tourism in Second Vajpayee ministry as its youngest minister in 1998–99. He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party,Arunachal Congress as well as the Indian National Congress and currently,a member of Bharatiya Janata Party after resigning from the primary and active membership of the Indian National Congress in February 2014 and joining the BJP on 20 February 2014.

Tumke Bagra did his graduation in Civil Engineering and served as Technocrat and Bureaucrat in his various capacities under State government and presently is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party from Arunachal Pradesh. He is a member of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elected from Aalo West Constituency in West Siang district. He became Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on 23 March 2016 but once again in March 2016,Bagra was elected as Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. On 23 May 2019,he was elected for the second term &presently holding the Cabinet Ministry under Pema Kandu government.
Tuting-Yingkiong is one of the 60 constituencies in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in India. The MLA as of 2019 is Alo Libang.
