Ameet Vilaschandra Mehta(also known as Ameet Kumar) [1] is an Indian lawyer.
He is the recipient of "Best Legal Advisor Award, [2] " 2013, "Maharashtra Gaurav Award, [3] " 2014, "USA Congressional Recognition" 18th Dist, Texas 2015, "National Real Estate Award" 2016, "Best Brands and Leaders of Asia Award", 2018, "Khoobsurat Jewels of India Award", 2019 and “Young Entrepreneurs Award”, 2020. Economic Times - Industry Leaders Recognition Award 2020.
Ameet Mehta was born in Mumbai on 28 August 1972 and comes from a Gujarati Jain Hindu family. His grandfather was originally from Barshi District in Solapur, Maharashtra. His grandfather owned a medical shop when India was under British colonial rule and his father worked in a chemical industry before retiring.
Mehta has completed his early schooling in Mumbai, then took Engineering from Pune University, and Law (LLB) from Mumbai University. He completed a full-time MBA Finance course from UK's Leeds University Business School, International Trade Management from Narsee Monjee, Mumbai and a professional course on Mergers and Acquisitions from London Business School.
As a young student, he participated in various political activities, becoming a formal member of BJP during his college days. He was in charge of various youth activities in Pune and Mumbai. His interest in property and criminal matters was right from early days as also in international Merger Acquisition and immigration matters.
He is Managing Partner currently heading the law firm "Solicis Lex", [4] Partner in Zurich Media House LLP, Trustee at Himgiri Gurukul Trust with Yoga Institute Chairperson Hansaben Yogendra and legal advisor for CA firm JBTM Associates LLP. He is also on board of various companies, trustee and governing councils in many organizations. He is Global Director with Jain International Organization commonly called as JIO. He was instrumental in setting up Samuhik Vivah Sanstha formed by Charity Commissioner for mass marriages for economically deprived class of people in State of Maharashtra. He is also National Advisor along with MLA Ashish Shelar for BJ Films and TV Industries Association, a prominent Union which looks after necessities of Film artists. He has been prominent and vocal in his concerns on cooperative issues and Indian property laws. He has also represented former Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde [5] in a contempt case. He has advised on the interpretation of the Real Estate Regulatory Act, RERA and was on the advisory committee while drafting of RERA bill. He is an expert in many subjects of law [6] and works closely with law professionals in Dubai, [7] the United States, Switzerland, UK and Israel. He is a co-author for Ready Reckoner's (a stamp duty and property valuation book) for Mumbai. He has also been a pioneer in many conveyance matters in Mumbai. He has been Lawyer of many film celebrities, representing late actress Sadhana [8] for several years, representing Vijayta Pandit, Lalit Pandit and the family, Raza Murad's Family, Poonam Dhillon, Jeetendra, Bhagyashree, Fashion Designer Shaina NC, Director Anees Bazmee and many others.
Mehta started his political career as a leader of the student wing. He was in charge of the Professional Cell BJYM in the national team of BJYM, BJP District General Secretary in Mumbai North West, President – Legal Cell, BJP Mumbai. He has been closely associated with former Governor Ram Naik of Uttar Pradesh and other political leaders in the BJP such as M.P Gopal Shetty, Poonam Mahajan in the BJYM Team, during his early days MLA and former Cabinet Minister Advocate Ashish Shelar, former Minister Prakash Mehta, former Minister and MLA Yogesh Sagar, MLA and former Minister Vidya Thakur, MLA Raj Purohit and Maharashtra Leader Jaiprakash Thakur. He has also been associated with Trustee of Giants Welfare Organization and BJP Leader Shaina NC, Censor Board Appellate Member Poonam Dhillon, former General Secretary of BJP Mumbai and Ex-Treasurer of Siddhi Vinayak Temple Sumant Ghaisas, and received recognition at the hands of SVKM Chairman Amrishbhai Patel. He visited the United States in 2015 to spread awareness of the newly elected BJP government and reach out to Indians residing there, attending several events around the country.
Mehta made his debut in a Hindi political-drama film Love You Loktantra, released on 14 October, 2022. [9]
Mehta is married to Bhavini Mehta and the couple has two Daughters.
He is one of the trustees of Pandit Deendayal Samaj Seva Kendra. The mentor and former Managing Trustee of this trust was Uttar Pradesh Ex-Governor Ram Naik.
Mehta is the Secretary of one of the most active ALMs, Malad Mindspace. He is also on the panel of the Indian Merchants Chamber and in Committee of Non-Banking Finance (NBFC). He is associated with many Software Associations, with Cooperative Societies Users and Welfare Association, Association of MBA's, UK, and various Alumni in Mumbai, Pune, and United Kingdom.
Sharad Govindrao Pawar is an Indian politician. He has served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for four terms and has also served in the Union Council Of Ministers as the Minister of Defence in the Cabinet of P.V Narsimha Rao and Minister of Agriculture in the Cabinet of Manmahon Singh. He was the first and current president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which he founded in 1999, after separating from the Indian National Congress. He leads the NCP delegation in the Rajya Sabha, the upper chamber of the Indian parliament. He is the chairperson of Maha Vikas Aghadi, a regional Maharashtra-based political alliance.
Ram Boolchand Jethmalani was an Indian lawyer and politician. He served as India's Union minister of law and justice, as chairman of the Indian Bar Council, and as the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association. He was noted in the Indian legal fraternity for his forte in criminal law and high-profile civil cases.
Manohar Gajanan Joshi is an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra, who served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999, and Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004. He is one of the prominent leaders of the Shiv Sena, and also the only Indian to be elected to all of the four legislatures.
Narayan Tatu Rane is an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He currently serves as Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Second Modi ministry. He has previously held Cabinet Ministry positions for Industry, Port, Employment and Self-employment; Revenue; and Industry in the Government of Maharashtra.
Gopinath Pandurang Munde was an Indian politician from Maharashtra. A popular Leader in Maharashtra called a Lokneta. He was a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Union Minister for Rural and Panchayati Raj in Narendra Modi's Cabinet. He is well known for being the mastermind behind the finish of the underworld in Mumbai, as deputy chief minister with home ministry of Maharashtra in 1995-1999. He is a chief architect who introduced the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act in assembly which was ratified by the supreme court of India.
Eknath Khadse is a politician and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra state. He was a Member of Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra from Muktainagar constituency for six consecutive terms till 2019. He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 1987 until his resignation in October 2020.
Poonam Mahajan is an Indian politician who serves as the Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Mumbai North Central, Constituency, Maharashtra. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She has served as the National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, from December 2016 to September 2020. Mahajan was the President of the Basketball Federation of India, the first female to hold this position. In addition, she currently serves as Chair of the Maharashtra State Animal Welfare Board.
Ashokrao Shankarrao Chavan is an Indian politician from Maharashtra. He is son of ex-Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Shankarraoji Chavan. He is one of the most influential leaders of Indian National Congress in Maharashtra. He has served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra state from 8 December 2008 to 9 November 2010. Also, he has served as Minister for Cultural Affairs, Industries, Mines and Protocol in the Vilasrao Deshmukh government and he is also the former PWD Minister of Maharashtra.
Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis is an Indian politician serving as the 9th and current Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra since 30 June 2022. He served as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 31 October 2014 to 12 November 2019. Having been sworn in at the age of 44, he is the second-youngest Chief Minister in Maharashtra's history after Sharad Pawar. He served a 5-day long second term as Chief Minister during the 2019 Maharashtra political crisis, before resigning on 28 November 2019. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Fadnavis has represented the Nagpur South West constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since 2009.
Madhukeshwar Desai is an Indian lawyer and politician, he is the great grand son of former Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai. In 2013, he was appointed the National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party at 25, making him the youngest Vice President in the history of the party. He was re appointed National Vice President for a second and third term in 2017 and 2021.
Ashish Shelar is an Indian politician and cricket administrator belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. He served as Maharashtra Legislative Assembly member representing Vandre West since 2014. He is president of the Mumbai unit of the BJP. He was elected as vice president of Mumbai Cricket Association on 17 June 2015. Elected as treasurer of the BCCI. On 9 September 2015, Shelar gained controversy when he helped ban the sale of meat for 8 days for the annual Jain celebration, Paryushana, at which time total fast from any and every food is required. Most constituencies in Maharashtra ban the sale of meat for only 4 days. The ban was criticized by the BJP's Maharashtra coalition partner, Shiv Sena.
Satya Pal Singh was India's Minister of State for Human Resource Development responsible for Higher Education and Minister of State in the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation. He is a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2014, representing Baghpat constituency, Uttar Pradesh in the 16th Lok Sabha and then retaining his seat in 2019 elections. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Although a parliamentary democracy, Indian politics has increasing become dynastic, possibly due to the absence of a party organization, independent civil society associations that mobilize support for the party, and centralized financing of elections. Family members have also led the Congress party for most of the period since 1978 when Indira Gandhi floated the then Congress(I) faction of the party. It also is fairly common in many political parties in Maharashtra. The dynastic phenomenon is seen from national level down to district level and even village level.The three-tier structure of Panchayati Raj established in the 1960s also helped to create and consolidate the dynastic phenomenon in rural areas. Apart from government,political families also control cooperative institutions, mainly cooperative sugar factories,district cooperative banks in the state, and since the 1980s private for profit colleges. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also features several senior leaders who are dynasts. In Maharashtra, the NCP has particularly high level of dynasticism.
Prakash Mehta is an Indian politician from Maharashtra and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was the President for Mumbai BJP Unit.
Girish Bapat was an Indian politician who served as a member of Parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, lower house of the Parliament of India from Pune, Maharashtra in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier he served as the Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Food and Drugs Administration and Parliamentary Affairs in the First Fadnavis ministry. He was a member of 13th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and one of the top Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Vidhan Sabha. He was elected from Kasba Peth constituency to the Vidhan Sabha in five consecutive elections since 1995.
Girish Dattatray Mahajan is a politician from Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. He is current MLA of Jamner. He is currently Cabinet Minister for Medical Education, Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department, Sports and Youth Welfare and was minister of water resources, Medical education and minister for irrigation of Maharashtra state in Fadnavis's cabinet. Girish Mahajan is a member of the 14th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for the Jamner, serving his sixth consecutive term.
Ameet Subhashrao Zanak is a member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He represents the constituency of Risod, India. He belonged to the Indian National Congress (INC).
Yogesh Sagar is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a three term member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He is well known for his social work. He has also been awarded the ‘Best MLA Award’ for three consecutive years by Praja Foundation.
The 2022 Maharashtra political crisis began on 21 June 2022 in the Indian state of Maharashtra when Eknath Shinde, along with several other MLAs of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition moved to Surat in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-governed Gujarat, throwing the coalition into a crisis.
The Members of 14th Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra were elected in the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election, with results announced on 21 October 2019.
