Anees Bazmee is an Indian film director, screenwriter and producer known for his works in Hindi cinema.

Early life

Born to Urdu poet Abdul Hameed 'Nerang' Bazmee into a Gujarati Muslim family, Bazmee began as a child actor in movies like Kitaab (1977) before becoming an assistant director for Raj Kapoor's Prem Rog (1982) and then a screenwriter with Swarg (1990). [1]

Career

Bazmee did his directorial debut with Hulchul in 1995, however his first commercial success in came in 1998 with the film Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha , one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of the year. [2] He achieved further success as well as recognition by directing the top-grossing comedies including No Entry (2005), Welcome (2007), Singh Is Kinng (2008), Ready (2011), Welcome Back (2015), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022) and also received praise for directing the moderately successful romantic thriller Deewangee (2002). [3] [4] His film which he completed in 2004, titled Naam was set to be released in 2022. [5]

A sequel to the 2007 film Welcome, it features an ensemble cast that includes Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Shiney Ahuja, Ankita Srivastava in her debut, with Dimple Kapadia, Paresh Rawal and Naseeruddin Shah. While Kapoor, Patekar, Rawal, Karnik, Irani, Josh, Dabi, Khan and Ranjeet have reprised their roles from the previous film, Abraham and Hassan are new additions to the lead cast. Made on a budget of ₹88 crore, the film was largely shot in and around Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Welcome Back was released worldwide on 4 September 2015.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language comedy horror film directed by Anees Bazmee, written by Aakash Kaushik and Farhad Samji, and produced by T-Series Films and Cine1 Studios. It is a standalone sequel to the 2007 film Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007). The film stars Tabu, Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani and follows Ruhaan Randhawa, who has to pose as a fraud psychic to deal with the return of Manjulika, a malevolent spirit hell-bent on vengeance against the Thakur family.
