Amir Ahmed Mustafa was the chief of staff of Bangladesh Navy from 15 August 1990 to 4 June 1991. [1] [2]
The Bangladesh Armed Forces are the combined military forces of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It consists of the three uniformed military services:the Bangladesh Army,the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Force. The Armed Forces are under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Defence of the Government of Bangladesh,and is directly administered by the Armed Forces Division of the Prime Minister's Office. The President of Bangladesh serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. It has the third-largest defence budget in South Asia and according to the Global Firepower index it is the third most powerful military force in South Asia. Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Coast Guard are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs during peacetime,but during wartime they fall under the command of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy respectively.
The Indo-Pakistani war of 1971,also known as the third India-Pakistan war,was a military confrontation between India and Pakistan that occurred during the Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan from 3 December 1971 until the Pakistani capitulation in Dhaka on 16 December 1971. The war began with Pakistan's Operation Chengiz Khan,consisting of preemptive aerial strikes on eight Indian air stations. The strikes led to India declaring war on Pakistan,marking their entry into the war for East Pakistan's independence,on the side of Bengali nationalist forces. India's entry expanded the existing conflict with Indian and Pakistani forces engaging on both the eastern and western fronts. Thirteen days after the war started,India achieved a clear upper hand,and the Eastern Command of the Pakistan military signed the instrument of surrender on 16 December 1971 in Dhaka,marking the formation of East Pakistan as the new nation of Bangladesh. Approximately 93,000 Pakistani servicemen were taken prisoner by the Indian Army,which included 79,676 to 81,000 uniformed personnel of the Pakistan Armed Forces,including some Bengali soldiers who had remained loyal to Pakistan. The remaining 10,324 to 12,500 prisoners were civilians,either family members of the military personnel or collaborators (Razakars).
The Bangladesh Navy is the naval warfare branch of the Bangladesh Armed Forces,responsible for Bangladesh's 118,813 square kilometres (45,874 sq mi) of maritime territorial area,and the defence of important harbours,military bases and economic zones. The primary role of the Bangladesh Navy is to protect the country's economic and military interests at home and abroad. The Bangladesh navy is also a front line disaster management force in Bangladesh,and participates in humanitarian missions abroad. It is a key regional player in counter terrorism efforts,and engages in global peacekeeping with the United Nations.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard is the maritime law enforcement force of Bangladesh. It is a paramilitary force which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its officers and sailors are transferred from the Bangladesh Navy,and most of the medical officers are transferred from the Bangladesh Army. The Bangladesh Coast Guard also performs the duty of maritime border security of Bangladesh. The headquarters is located in Dhaka,Bangladesh. The coast guard has 3,339 personnel and 63 ships. A modernisation plan named Coast Guard Goal 2030 was undertaken to enhance its capabilities.
The Khulna Shipyard Limited(Bengali:খুলনাশিপইয়ার্ডলিমিটেড) is a Bangladeshi state owned defense contractor based in Khulna,Bangladesh. It is located on 68.97 acres (27.91 ha) of land at Labanchara,Khulna,Bangladesh. It is about 45 km north from the Port of Mongla. The shipyard has the capacity to build steel / aluminium ships up to 90 m length and 700 tons lightweight. The shipyard has a slipway with a capacity to dock and undock vessels up to 700 tons lightweight and overall length of 84 meters.
The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) (Bengali:নৌবাহিনীপ্রধান,romanized: Nou Bahini Pradhan) is the commander and usually the highest-ranking officer of the Bangladesh Navy. The position is abbreviated as CNS in Bangladesh Navy,and currently held by an Admiral. The current CNS is Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan,who took office on 24 July 2023.

The Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (SWADS) is an elite special operational unit of the Bangladesh Navy. Members are professional soldiers and are recruited through the Bangladesh Navy. The neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar had a generally frosty relationship under the Burmese military junta,and as a result of the presence of over 270,000 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. The civil society and political class of Bangladesh often voiced solidarity for Burma's pro-democracy struggle. However,relations between the two nations soured as a result of Rohingya genocide which resulted in the influx of over 1.1 million Rohingya refugees from Rakhine State in Myanmar to Bangladesh.
The Type 056 corvette is a class of warship deployed by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). They replace older patrol craft and some of the Type 053H frigates. The first Type 056 entered service in March 2013,and 22 ships were built to this model.

Sheikh Russel was the youngest child of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,the founding father and first President of Bangladesh. Russel and most of his direct family were killed in their home during the 1975 military coup.
