Awards and decorations of the Pakistan Armed Forces

The awards and decorations of the Pakistan Armed Forces recognize a service member's service and personal accomplishments while a member of the Pakistan Armed Forces. Together with military badges, such awards are a means to outwardly display the highlights of a service member's career. A few of these medals and awards are also given to or have in the past been given to Pakistani civil service officers or civilians with special government permission (Pakistan general service "Kashmir 1948" medal holder Kashmir Regiment Army No. 2115 late Hero Gazi Lasnaik Qalander Shah s/o Bakdur shah r/o Jutial Gilgit Baltistan). The Punjab Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Pakistan Army. The regiment takes its name from the historic Punjab region, which is now divided into the Punjab province of Pakistan and the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. It was raised in its current form in 1956, following the amalgamation of the 1st, 14th, 15th and 16th Punjab regiments that were inherited by the Dominion of Pakistan from the British Indian Army upon the Partition of India. The Frontier Force Regiment is one of the six infantry regiments of the Pakistan Army. They are popularly known as the Piffers in reference to their military history as the PIF of the British Indian Army, or as the FF. The regiment takes its name from the historic North-West Frontier, a former province of British India and later Pakistan.

The Nishan-e-Pakistan is the second grade of the Order of Pakistan, the highest civilian award of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It is awarded to "those who have rendered services of highest distinction" to the national interest of Pakistan. Nishan is awarded to government officials and civilians, including citizens of Pakistan and foreign nationals. In the Pakistan honours system, Nishan-e-Pakistan is equivalent to Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military gallantry award. Established on 19 March 1975 under the Decorations Act, 1975, the award is not correlated to the rank or status of a person.

Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, also spelled as Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, is a state-organised honour of Pakistan. It is given to any civilian in Pakistan based on their achievements. While it is a civilian/military award, it can be bestowed upon officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces and worn on their uniform. It can also be awarded to foreign citizens who have performed great service to Pakistan.

The Hilal-e-Jurat is the second-highest military award of Pakistan out of a total of four gallantry awards that were created in 1957. In order of rank it comes after the Nishan-e-Haider coming before the Sitara-e-Jurat.

The Hilaal-e-Imtiaz, also spelled and transliterated as Hilāl-e-Imtiyāz, is the second-highest civilian award and honour given to both civilians and military officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces by the Government of Pakistan. Sitara-e-Jurat is the third highest military award of Pakistan. It was established in 1957 after Pakistan became a republic; however, it was instituted retrospectively back to 1947. It is awarded for gallantry or distinguished service in combat; and can be bestowed upon officers, junior commissioned officers, petty officers, warrant officers, soldiers, sailors, airmen, and equivalents in the Pakistan Army, Navy, Air Force, and various paramilitary forces under federal control, such as the Frontier Corps, the Frontier Constabulary, and the Pakistan Rangers. It may be considered to be roughly equivalent to the Military Cross and the Silver Star.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tamgha-i-Jurat</span> Fourth-highest military award of Pakistan

Tamgha-i-Jurat, is the fourth highest military award of Pakistan. This citation is awarded for extraordinary heroism while engaged in armed combat with an opposing force on Pakistan soil or outside its borders. The award was established in 1957 after Pakistan became a republic, however, it was instituted retrospectively back to 1947. This medal is awarded for various types of high risk tactical missions like combat, tactical reconnaissance and infiltration and can be bestowed upon all ranks, commissioned officers and non-commissioned officers, in the Pakistan Army, Navy, Air Force, and the paramilitary Civil Armed Forces such as the Frontier Corps, the Frontier Constabulary and the Pakistan Rangers. Ranked below the Sitara-i-Jurat on the order of precedence, the Tamgha-i-Jurat is the equivalent to the Military Cross in the U.K Commonwealth honours system and the Silver Star in the United States honours system.

General Ashfaq Parvez KayaniNI(M) HI(C) HI(M) LoM LoH OMM, is a retired four-star general of the Pakistan Army who served as the eighth chief of army staff, being appointed on 29 November 2007 after his predecessor Pervez Musharraf retired from his military service and remained in the office until 29 November 2013.

Lieutenant-General Nadeem Ahmad is a retired senior three-star ranking general officer who is famed and widely honored for planning and coordinating the relief and reconstruction non-combatant military operations after the devastating earthquake of October 2005. Securing the appointment as the director of Federal Relief Commission of Pakistan Army, his credentials secured him the directorship of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA). After serving in the military for nearly 40 years, he was duly appointed as the chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA); his efforts included the successful disaster management and preparations to contain the nationwide 2010 floods and coordinate the rescue operations in the Hunza Valley, Attabad Lake, and the Airblue crash.

Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar Khan ; was the longest serving Parliamentarian in the history of Pakistan. He served in Provincial Assembly of the Punjab and National Assembly of Pakistan from 1951 to 1999 and was the longest serving member. The first direct elections held in Pakistan after independence were for the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab between 10–20 March 1951. He was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly in 1951. He was again elected in the 1962 and 1964 Provincial Assembly elections in Pakistan. He remained Member National Assembly of Pakistan from 1985-1999. He was also member of Mājlis-e-Shūrā Pākistān, The Federal Council from 1982-1984.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pakistan Medal</span> Award

The Pakistan Medal was established by King George VI in 1949 as a commemorative medal. The medal commemorates service during the period just before and after the creation of the independent Dominion of Pakistan on 14 August 1947. Most recipients were members of the armed forces of Pakistan, including attached British personnel.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Muhammad Zakaullah</span> Pakistani admiral

AdmiralMuhammad ZakaullahNI(M) HI(M) SI(M) PP TI(M) LoM PGAT is a retired admiral in the Pakistan Navy, who was the 15th Chief of Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy. He was later replaced by Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi.

Lieutenant General Zia Ullah Khan was a senior officer of the Pakistan Army who served as a corps commander of XII Corps from January 1993 – 1995 and commandant Azad Kashmir Regiment. He had made various contributions in the military and civil development in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan for which he came to be highly respected in both circles. He was known for his service to urge Pervez Musharraf to step down after the 1999 Pakistani coup d'état.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shafaat Ullah Shah</span> Pakistani general, author, diplomat (born 1953)

Lieutenant General Shafaat Ullah ShahHI(M) is a retired three star general of the Pakistan Army, diplomat, and author. He often writes for the Pakistan Armed Forces magazine, "Hilal English". He has served as Chief of Logistics Staff at the GHQ, Colonel Commandant of the Baloch Regiment, Commander IV Corps, and as Military Secretary to President Musharraf.
