Military awards and decorations are distinctions given as a mark of honor for military heroism, meritorious or outstanding service or achievement. A decoration is often a medal consisting of a ribbon and a medallion.
Georg von Habsburg is a German-born Hungarian diplomat. He is referred to in Austria as Georg Habsburg-Lothringen, in Hungary as Habsburg György, and in some international media by his courtesy title Archduke Georg of Austria.

The Order of Saint Stephen was an order of chivalry founded in 1764 by Maria Theresa. In 1938, Miklós Horthy took the rights and activities of Grand Master as Regent of Hungary. The name of the Order changed to the Royal Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen. The Order was terminated at the time of the proclamation of the Second Hungarian Republic in 1946. It was recreated in 2011 as the Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen, and to this day remains the highest order in Hungary.

The Hungarian Order of Merit is the fourth highest State Order of Hungary. Founded in 1991, the order is a revival of an original order founded in 1946 and abolished in 1949. Its origins, however, can be traced to the Order of Merit of the Kingdom of Hungary which existed from 1922 until 1946.
The present honours and decorations were passed by the Mozambican Assembly of the Republic in March 2011. It consists of two honorary titles, five Orders and some medals. The order is made up of one grade and is awarded in recognition of the most special merits, outstanding life's work and significant international achievements in the service of Hungary. A maximum of 3 awards are permitted to be awarded to Hungarians per year.
The Hungarian Corvin Chain is the second highest Hungarian state decoration, after the Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen, and is awarded to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of Hungarian public thought, science and culture. Unlike other medal holders, the recipients form a body which meets periodically to discuss the state of Hungary.
The Hungarian Cross of Merit is the fifth highest state decoration of Hungary. Until 2011, the order was awarded the called the Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary. A maximum of 250 awards from each class are permitted to be awarded to Hungarians per year.
The Decoration of the Hungarian Red Cross was a Hungarian award instituted on 30 March 1922 by Regent Miklós Horthy to mark the 50th anniversary of the Geneva Convention. It was intended to honour individuals who had worked in the voluntary emergency services of the Red Cross, either in peacetime or in war. In 7. January 1938 the original 3 decorations were augmented with 2 medals, the Silver and the bronze medal. Because war was inevitable all classes received a war decoration sub-class.
