Amir Ali (born 2 May 2004) [1] is an Indian field hockey player from Uttar Pradesh. He made his senior India debut in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy China 2024. He plays as a defender for Uttar Pradesh in the domestic tournaments and for Team Gonasika, Vizag in the Hero Hockey India League 2024. [2]
Ali is from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His father is a motorcycle mechanic, Tasawar Ali. [3] He took to hockey at the age of 10 at KD Singh Babu society ground in Lucknow and learnt his basics under his first coach Rashid Aziz Khan. After that he got selected and moved to Saifai Sports College (now Major Dhyanchand Sports College) in 2014. [4] [5] He returned to Lucknow in 2019 and rejoined his first coach Khan in Sports Authority of India's Lucknow center. [6]
Ali made his senior India debut winning a gold medal in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2024 at China. He also played in the Indian team at the FIH Pro League 2023–24. He was part of the Indian under–21 team the Sultan of Johor Cup for three years where India won gold in 2022 and bronze in 2023 and 2024. He was also part of the Indian team at the FIH Junior World Cup 2023 where India finished fourth. He captained the Indian team [7] to a gold medal at the Junior Asia Cup at Muscat, Oman in 2024, to add to his previous Junior Asia Cup gold in the 2023 edition at Salalah, Oman. [8]
Kunwar Digvijay Singh, popularly known as "Babu", was an Indian field hockey player. He was born in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. He is widely known for his passing ability and is considered by many to be the greatest dribbler of the game comparable only to Dhyan Chand.
