Ana Maria Santiago,also known as Ana Santiago,is a Filipina softball coach for the Adamson Lady Falcons,who won the last 11 UAAP Softball Championships. [1] [2] [3] [4] She is arguably the greatest active head coach in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines as Adamson won 16 titles under her belt. [5] [6] In Season 80 opening rites,the collegiate league considered her one of the "UAAP greats," representing Adamson along with her player Queeny Sabobo and other top athletes from seven other UAAP member schools. [7] [8]
Santiago first played for the Lady Falcons in 1995 and was part of the team that won four straight UAAP titles from 1997 to 2001 under head coach Filomeno Codinera. [9] She and Jenny De Jesus-Cabrera would later become Adamson's assistant coaches. [10]
The Lady Falcons racked up more championships from the time Santiago assumed the head coaching job from Codiñera in 2004. [11] She also coached Team Manila,representing the Asia Pacific district,and won over United States West representative Westchester,California to snatch the biggest of her international crowns,the Big League Softball World Series,held in Kalamazoo,Michigan on August 9,2012. [12] With that victory,Senate passed a resolution commending Santiago and her team composed of players from Adamson,the University of Santo Tomas,the University of the East,and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. [13]
After steering the Lady Falcons to their decade of dominance and 19th title overall on March 18,2023,Santiago said this was her sweetest championship in the UAAP. [14]
Santiago was inducted into the Adamson Athletes Hall of Fame in 2012. [15] In 2024 she received the PSC-PCW Women in Sports Awards. [16] [17]
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP),established in 1938,is an athletic association of eight Metro Manila universities in the Philippines. The eight-member schools are Adamson University (AdU),Ateneo de Manila University,De La Salle University (DLSU),Far Eastern University (FEU),National University (NU),University of the East (UE),University of the Philippines Diliman (UP),and the University of Santo Tomas (UST).
The Adamson Soaring Falcons,Lady Falcons,Baby Falcons and Lady Baby Falcons are the collegiate men's and women's,and high school men's and women's,respectively,varsity teams of Adamson University that play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
The De La Salle Green Archers and Lady Archers are the varsity teams representing De La Salle University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines,among other leagues. The "Green Archer" is the traditional university mascot. While the university's teams are collectively referred to as the Green Archers and Lady Archers,each team carries a specific moniker that references the sport that they play. Alyssa Caymo Valdez is a Filipino volleyball player who currently plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers. She was a member of the collegiate varsity women's volleyball team of Ateneo de Manila University in both indoor and beach volleyball. She was most outstanding as an indoor volleyball player where she brought multiple championship titles and a lot of honor for the university. She is a current member of Philippines national team. Her global recognition paved the way for her to play in other countries like Thailand for 3BB Nakornnont and Taiwan for Attack Line Volleyball Club.
Ennajie Cruz Laure,better known as EJ Laure,is a Filipino volleyball player. She is a member and a former team captain of the UST Golden Tigresses volleyball team,and a former Philippine national team member.
Filomeno Codiñera Jr.,also known as Boy Codiñera,was a Filipino baseball and softball player. He has represented both the men's national softball and baseball teams of the Philippines. He played as an outfielder in softball and as a third baseman in baseball.
Sachi Minowa,commonly known as Jaja Santiago,is a Philippine-born Japanese volleyball player who plays for JT Marvelous of Japan's V.League.
Jessica Margarett "Jema" Casidsid Galanza is a Filipina volleyball player and former captain of the Adamson Soaring Lady Falcons volleyball team in the UAAP and a National Team Member. She also played for the Laoag Power Smashers during the 2016 SVL Reinforced Conference and has become one of the top spikers for the Creamline Cool Smashers since 2017 in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
Maria Deanna Izabella Alvizo Wong is a Filipino professional volleyball athlete. Wong was a member of the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Blue Eagles,the school's women's varsity volleyball team from 2016 to 2020. During Season 80 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in 2018,she won the Best Setter Award.
Isabel Beatriz "Bea" Paras de Leon is a Filipino professional volleyball player who currently plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL). She played for the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the UAAP for five straight years and in her final year,led her team to its third championship and was named the UAAP Season 81 Finals MVP.
Jerom Lastimosa is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Magnolia Hotshots of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He played college basketball for the Adamson Soaring Falcons of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) from Season 81 to 86. He has also played for the Philippines men's national basketball team.
Sherwin Meneses is a Filipino volleyball coach. He is currently the head coach of the defending champion professional team,Creamline Cool Smashers,of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL). He also coached the Adamson Lady Falcons in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the Arellano Chiefs in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Manila Tytana Colleges Women's Volleyball Team.
