The SS Ourang Medan was a supposed ghost ship which, according to various sources, became a shipwreck in the Dutch East Indies in the Straits of Malacca waters, or elsewhere, after its entire crew had died under suspicious circumstances, either in 1940, 1947 or 1948, depending on the newspaper source. Most people agree that the story of the Ourang Medan is an urban legend due to the fact that there were never records of a ship named the Ourang Medan.

Djamaluddin Adinegoro was an Indonesian press pioneer. He is known as a reporter, writer, and political analyst. Through his writing in various newspapers, Adinegoro has made a great contribution in developing journalism and the Indonesian language. AR Baswedan was one of Indonesia's first diplomats who successfully gained de jure and de facto international recognition for the Republic of Indonesia. He was awarded the title of National Hero of Indonesia in 2018.
Tirto Adhi Soerjo was an Indonesian journalist known for his sharp criticism of the Dutch colonial government. Born to a noble Javanese family in Blora, Central Java, Tirto first studied to become a doctor but later focused on journalism. A freelancer since 1894, in 1902 he was made an editor of the Batavia based Pembrita Betawi. Tirto established his first newspaper in 1903 and, four years later, created Medan Prijaji as a medium for educated native Indonesians. This proved his longest-lived publication, lasting over five years before Tirto was exiled in 1912 to Bacan for his staunch anti-colonial criticism.

Raden Ajeng Titien Sumarni was an Indonesian actress active in the 1950s. Born in Surabaya, she moved to Tasikmalaya as a child and developed an interest in stage acting, trained by her uncle and future husband Mustari, later acting for republican troops during the Indonesian National Revolution. Sumarni began acting in film in 1951, making her debut with Seruni Laju. Over her five-year career Sumarni acted in thirty films, established her own film production company, and became one of the most popular Indonesian actresses of her time. Following her final film, Djandjiku (1956), Sumarni fell out of the spotlight, eventually dying at very young age.
The Medan Light Rail Transit is a planned light rail transit system in Medan, Indonesia. Made due to concerns of the congested future of the city, the government deems the project, alongside the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), necessary. The project was announced in 2017 as a public-private partnership, with many international corporations began bidding. Construction began in 2019, but was disturbed the next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The LRT will use one rolling stock, with more than 20 stations divided into three lines.

Waspada (Aware) is an Indonesian daily newspaper published in Medan, North Sumatra by PT Penerbitan Harian Waspada. Having first published on 11 January 1947, it is the third oldest continuously published newspaper in Indonesia, only behind Kedaulatan Rakyat of Yogyakarta and Mimbar Umum of Medan. It is one of the largest newspapers in the city.
Sinar Indonesia Baru is an Indonesian daily newspaper published in Medan, North Sumatra. The newspaper was founded on 9 May 1970 by GM Panggabean, a former contributor at Waspada; it claims itself as the only newspaper founded by a Bataknese. Besides printed edition, Sinar Indonesia Baru also maintain its online presence.
