Anatomy of Crime is an American television series that aired on the Court TV (now truTV) network. [1] The show first aired on January 17, 2000, and ran for two seasons, ending on March 5, 2002, with a total of twenty-six episodes, thirteen per season. The show was a series of one-hour documentaries that took viewers onto the streets and behind the scenes of crime. [2] The series included footage from the police and the courts, covering everything from high-speed police chases and sting operations to sex trafficking and the impact of the media’s coverage. Each episode showcased a particular aspect of crime, and the issues and controversies surrounding it, including the perspectives of the country's foremost sociologists, psychologists and representatives of leading organizations in each area. The show was produced by John Langley and his production company, Langley Productions. The episodes originally appeared irregularly as part of Court TV's signature crime series, Crime Stories . The series was narrated by Phil Crowley, known as being the narrator of Shark Tank .

Some of the content that aired in Anatomy of Crime was occasionally graphic for television. Some of the episodes that aired featured filmed murders that weren't censored. A number of these filmed murders included: Gary Plauché killing pedophile Jeff Doucet, [4] Emilio Nuñez murdering his ex-wife Maritza Martin at a cemetery and the murder of Lea Mek, which was a gang related shooting between the Asian Boyz gang and the Wah Ching gang at a pool hall. [5] All of these cases were filmed murders. None of this footage was censored and was still aired on television, despite the graphic nature of this footage. The video of Plauché that aired on Anatomy of Crime has been uploaded to YouTube and has received over 19 million views.

In Europe, the show was aired on Reality TV (now known as CBS Reality) from 2002 until 2005. [6]

The show was also aired on Bravo in the United Kingdom.

Forensic Files, originally known as Medical Detectives, is an American documentary television program that reveals how forensic science is used to solve violent crimes, mysterious accidents, and outbreaks of illness. The show was originally broadcast on TLC, narrated by Peter Thomas, and produced by Medstar Television, distributed by FilmRise, in association with truTV Original Productions. It broadcast 406 episodes from its debut on TLC in 1996 until its final episode in 2011. John Russell Langley was an American television and film director, writer, and producer who was best known as the creator and executive producer of the television show Cops, which premiered on Fox in March 1989.

<i>Cops</i> (TV program) American reality documentary police series

Cops is an American reality legal television documentary programming series that is currently in its 35th season. It is produced by Langley Productions and premiered on the Fox network on March 11, 1989. The series, known for chronicling the lives of law enforcement officials, follows police officers and sheriff's deputies, sometimes backed up by state police or other state agencies, during patrol, calls for service, and other police activities including prostitution and narcotic stings, and occasionally the serving of search/arrest warrants at criminal residences. Some episodes have also featured federal agencies. The show's formula follows the cinéma vérité convention, which does not consist of any narration, scripted dialogue or incidental music/added sound effects, depending entirely on the commentary of the officers and on the actions of the people with whom they come into contact, giving the audience a fly on the wall point of view. Each episode typically consists of three self-contained segments which often end with one or more arrests.

Video Justice is a reality television primetime program produced by John Langley airing on the television cable station truTV, and is part of network's truTV RED lineup. The program focuses on criminals who were captured on camera in the act of the crime. The crimes are often "life or death" situations that may involve one of the two parties, either law enforcement or the criminals, being killed or seriously injured. It often displays pictures of the suspect in most of its footage, and tells you the name of that suspect who of which committed that crime and describes their punishment. The primetime show runs for 30 minutes.

The first series of Australian crime television drama series Underbelly originally aired from 13 February 2008 to 7 May 2008 on the Nine Network and is loosely based on the real events of the 1995–2004 gangland war in Melbourne. Leon Gary Plauché was an American man known for publicly killing Jeff Doucet, a child molester who had kidnapped and raped Plauché's son, Jody. The killing occurred on March 16, 1984 and was captured on camera by a local news crew. Plauché was given a seven-year suspended sentence with five years' probation and 300 hours of community service, receiving no prison time. The case received wide publicity because some people questioned whether Plauché should have been charged with murder. Plauché contended that he was in the right, and that any parent in a similar position would have taken the same action.

Lea Mek was a Cambodian refugee living in the United States who was a member of the Asian Boyz street gang. On December 3, 1993, Mek was murdered in a gang shooting by the Wah Ching gang, at a pool hall in El Monte, California. The murder was caught on camera by four surveillance cameras installed within the hall. After his murder, the Asian Boyz declared war on the Wah Ching. As a result, it influenced a number of other gang murders and shootings in the LA area, and created a strong feud between both Asian gangs. Authorities claim the murder inspired a chain reaction of gang violence which led to ten other murders in the LA area.

<i>The Defected</i> Hong Kong TV series or program

The Defected is a 2019 Hong Kong television drama produced and directed by So Man-Chung, with Carmen So serving as co-director. It is a co-production between the Hong Kong broadcasting company TVB and China's Tencent Penguin Pictures, a television production unit launched by Tencent. It stars Benjamin Yuen as Inspector Sheung Sing, a policeman who becomes embroiled in a conspiracy plaguing the high-ranking officials due to an incident that almost cost him his life.
