Andhra Kesari University is a public university located in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh. It was established on 11 January 2022. [1] The university was named after Tanguturi Prakasam, a political leader, social reformer and anti-colonial nationalist. He served as the chief minister of Madras Presidency and subsequently became the first chief minister of erstwhile Andhra State. He was known as "Andhra Kesari" which translates to "Lion of Andhra". Earlier, the university is the outgrowth initiative of the Post-Graduate centre of Acharya Nagarjuna University, which was established on 16 November 1993 with the aim of ensure better education to poor and backward communities in and around Prakasam district. [6] [7] [8]
On 24 November 2021, Government of Andhra Pradesh introduced a bill in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly to upgrade the Post-Graduate centre into an autonomous university. On 11 January 2022, the university was officially established, through the A.P Universities (Amendment) Act, 2021. [9] [10] [11]
The present Post-Graduate campus existed with 3.16 acres. In addition to this, it has 109.80 acres of land at Pernamitta, Ongole. The said multidisciplinary university is proposed to be established in Pernamitta village of Santhanuthalapadu mandal, Prakasam district, with an exclusive focus on Teacher Education, by relocating the existing P.G centre of Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu was an Indian jurist, political leader, social reformer, and anti-colonial nationalist who served as the chief minister of the Madras Presidency. Prakasam subsequently became the first chief minister of the erstwhile Andhra State, created by the partition of Madras State along the linguistic lines. Prakasam was known as "Andhra Kesari" which translates to "Lion of Andhra". The Andhra Pradesh government issued G.O RT-2500 on 10 August 2014 declaring his birth anniversary a State holiday.
Andhra Kesari is a 1983 Indian Telugu-language period biographical film written, directed, and produced by Vijayachander. The film is based on the life of Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, the first Chief Minister of Andhra State, popularly known by the epithet Andhra Kesari. It is a co-production between Vijayachander and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Vijayachander plays the title character Prakasam Panthulu, and Murali Mohan plays Kandukuri Veeresalingam. Prakasamdistrict is one of the twelve districts in the coastal Andhra region of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It was formed in 1970 and reorganised on 4 April 2022. The headquarters of the district is Ongole. It is located on the western shore of Bay of Bengal and is bounded by Bapatla district and Palnadu districts in the north, Nandyal district in the west, Kadapa and Nellore districts in the south. Nadimpalli Venkata Lakshmi Narasimha Rao of Guntur popularly known as "Guntur Kesari" was an Indian freedom fighter who worked in tandem with "Andhra Kesari" Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu. In 1953 he acted as pro tem speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
