Andrei Plekhanov (born 12 July 1986) is a Russian former professional ice hockey defenseman. Plekhanov was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third round with the 96th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

He then came over to North America and signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets, skating for the club's AHL affiliate the Syracuse Crunch and ECHL affiliate Elmira Jackals during the 2007–08 season. The young defenseman re-signed to a one-way deal with the Blue Jackets for the 2008–09 season [1] and signed in October 2009 for HC Dynamo Moscow.

The 2005–06 Columbus Blue Jackets season was the sixth National Hockey League season in Columbus, Ohio. The team's final position in the standings was hampered by a slow start that resulted from losing a number of key players, including goals leader Rick Nash, to injury. Once these players returned to the roster, the team had one of the strongest second halves in the NHL. Despite the strong finish, the Blue Jackets finished outside of the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season. However, the strong finish did lead to raised expectations for the 2006–07 season.

The 2002–03 Columbus Blue Jackets season was the Blue Jackets' third season in the National Hockey League (NHL), as the team was coming off of a 22–47–8–5 record in the 2001–02 season, earning 57 points and finishing in last in the Western Conference.
